I need to get a couple te serviced before the season starts. I know you can send in to Shimano, but I'm a little nervous I won't get my own reel back if I do. Anyone have any suggestions on were to send them?

Shimano or Pikemaster on this site. I have sent my TE into shimano for their topshelf service and have not had any problems. I also have had service reels for me agian without any problems.

Pikemaster is always recommended and gets nothing but good praise...daves reel service is another one. I sent my calcutta to him for cleaning, updated carbon drag, recession of my 700BSV power handle, and addition of counterweight to the handle too. I believe its around 5 weeks before you get it back im not sure how busy pikemaster is

I'm taking all my reels over to Dave's Reel Service tomorrow night to drop them off to get worked on. Everyone I talk to recommends them very highly.

WHOA, HOLD UP!

Why would you be sending a Calcutta TE in for service? I thought that was the top dog reel that is nearly invincible.

Honestly, kind of jealous because I haven't splurged on a $370 reel yet in my life. But obviously parts will wear over time in any reel and will need replacement. Although it gets irritating replacing parts midway through the season on almost every reel in your line-up. Is that normal?

Question for you Calcutta owners, how long does the reel work perfect before it needs some sort of service? Which would obviously vary on hours of use and what size lures you've been throwing, but a general idea.

I have owned the reel for three seasons. One of them is on my dcg rod and the other is on my dawg rod. I have thousands of casts in both of them. They still perform excellent besides in windy situations they are starting to deter a bit. I'm sending them in to keep a big investment in good condition over anything else. I have had a lot of abus that are junk after a season and my te's are still kicking after three seasons.

"Guest"All reels need to be cleaned every so often, don't they? The nice thing about sending in a Calcutta TE into shimano is it qualifies for their topshelf service. I have sent my reels in every other year or so and shimano has always sent me back my reel in like new working order. It is cleaned, lubed and any internal parts that have shown wear has been replaced as part of the top shelf service deal while it was in being cleaned for free of charge... Maybe I have been lucky but that has been my experience so far. I have reels serviced by Pikemaster, Dave's reel repair and others with excellent service from them, but until shimano charges me above and beyond a clean and lube price on my TE, they will see my TE's back every other year,

When your car reaches 5000 miles do you change the OIL or just keep driving until the warning light goes on?

When the temps are in the 20s any reel is susceptable to failure...

I use Dave's but a lot of people on here swear by PikeMaster. You can't go wrong with either.
