What is the best walk the dog lure you guys use? I want one but there are just so many to pick from. Also, if you know the color please mention that as well. Thanks

Hands down Baby Musky Lee Lures Fish Stick HD! Very easy to work in ALL water conditions, and the thing flat out catches fish!

If you really want to find out if there is a fish around put on DOC they may not always eat it but they will let you know that they are around. To big of a swing from side to side low hooking percentage keep it tight and thouse odds go way up.also you can throw it a mile not that long casts are the best but you cover a lot of water. Get the fish to follow all the way and won't eat it go sub surface with it and real big corners if you know what I mean later Don

The only three that i throw are lees fishstick the one eyed willy and fhe willey jr. Depends if i want a loud wtd or a quiet one. They do different things but both are awesome baits. Im sure the weagle or something like that is good too

I would say there are almost two different types of walk the dog baits, lightweight/fast ones and heavy/slow ones. The DOC and Giant Jackpot are good lightweight/fast ones while Weagles and One-Eyed Willies are good heavy/slow ones. However, the Fishstick is a really good in-between bait and can be used in multiple situations. I would probably get a FishStick and a Weagle to cover all options.

I haven't tried the Fish Stick HD, but the regular Fish Stick is awesome. Any differences in the HD versus the regular besides size?

There is no "Best". Everyone has their confidence/favorite bait. IMO there are 2 "styles" of WTD topwaters, alluding to what Jason said. There are what I call "head bobbers" and "sloshers".Head bobbers typically have the screw eye placement under the nose or chin while sloshers , again typically, have the screw eye placement straight out of the nose. An anomoly would be the Doc, due to weighting. I tend to work head bobbers(Jackpot,Top Prey) quicker and as a "search" bait. The sloshers I work slower, typically after a fish was located that didn't eat. Lots of great options out there too. Very much looking forward to throwing the bait made by Steve Florio and FB Outdoors this season. Oh yeah, a Weagle is a Weagle is a Weagle. Suick has done a great job with them. What's a "Cady" Weagle??????? Hahahahaha.

Catchandrelease, the HD size is a little more forgiving with more weight to throw around. When fishing water with floating weeds, the bait will not shut down as easy with small weeds hanging on bait. The HD will also work well in very rough water, even better than the regular sized Fish Stick. I throw them about the same amount each. They each have their place.

Thanks for asking. Can't wait to start throwing them!

Lee,

That loon pattern is sick. I don't have any of your lures, but I'm gonna pick that one up for sure!

Doc is my favorite. It is very versatile and will catch fish year round. I have found the hook-up percentage to be better when I work it slower, but that may just be my imagination.

Love the 8" Viper Softail from Phantom Lures! Moves a lot of water and the tail adds just a little bit extra triggering!!
