I bought a Revo Toro Winch 60 a couple years ago and never liked it because the 4.6:1 gear ratio was just too slow for throwing DCG's. I contacted Abu Garcia to find out if they offered a gear kit to increase the speed to 5.2:1 and I'm happy to find out that they do, though it is not sold as a kit but sold as a number of parts. I have also added on a power handle and look forward to receiving these parts to upgrade my reel. If all works out well I have a nice seat ready for it on a newly purchased Thorne Brothers 9' XH Predator rod. Has anyone out there attempted to speed up their Revo? Anything unusual that I should be prepared for?

Posts: 1462 Location: Davenport, IA | I changed one of my Revo STX's that I use for bass from 6.4:1 to 5.4:1. It was just changing the main gear and pinion gear. The process is very simple if you take your reels apart to clean them anyway. The price was not too bad and its great for deep cranks.

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | I was thinking of speeding up a 5.4:1 (not 5.2) to a 6.4:1. I still might as I have two 5.4s.

Posts: 1348 Location: Pewaukee, WI | I've changed the gearing in my Toro Winch as well. I had Richard Schmitz (PikeMaster from this site) do it while servicing the reel. I'm with you on stepping up the retrieval speed and at 5:4.1 that is a good all around speed to handle most baits.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Just make sure you order the right set of gears, look at the # on the bottom of the reel seat, ABU has 2 different gears sets for the Toro reels. Also sometimes you have to replace the pinion holder on some gears sets. Pm me if you need help. Cost $50.00 plus from ABU with shipping and tax.
