Subject: Ashton Update.....

Hello Everyone,

Just went down and saw my little guy again yesterday. He was dressed in his Sunday best and was soooo very handsome. Got lots of new pics to get developed and will put one up when I get them back.

Ashton has healed quickly from his last surgery and almost all his stitches are dissolved. His soft palate healed perfectly with no separations. He is back to eating his regular foods and is growing like a weed. His attitude never floundered since getting released from the hospital, so my little happy-go-lucky guy is just smiling his way through recovery.

Ashton's surgery was Thursday morning, October 3rd. The surgery went well, with minimal blood loss and no complications. He was in surgery for 3 1/2 hours and then spent 2 hours in recovery because of a bad experience. When he first woke up in recovery, the nurses didn't have his mom there for him, and my poor little guy freaked out. Strange environment, strange people, and in pain. He started screaming and the surgeons afraid he would undo all their handiwork, had him put back under anesthesia. The next time when he awoke, he was in mom's arms and then recovery started for him. He got released early as he did so well, so was home on Friday the 4th. He has to wear his arm restraints until his post-op appointment on October 21st, but doesn't seem to mind now that he is walking and making new sounds. The arm restraints are kind of like little casts, so that he cannot put his hands in his little mouth and rip any stitches. A small price to pay for all the wonderful work the surgeries are doing for him. Now that Ashton has a soft palate he is able to breathe and eat at the same time. Previously, his choice was to breathe or eat, he was not able to do both together. While this led to a couple of choking incidents at first, he has mastered his newfound freedom. What a success this has all been for him!!!!

Just as soon as I get pictures back I will post some on the site so everyone can see how well he is healing, and how well his surgeries are going. Only 5 more surgeries to go as far as we know at this point.

Again, a special Thank You to each and every person on this board for the continued support, prayers, and kindness that you have all given so freely. I hope this update puts a smile on everyone's face. Just as Ashton is always smiling. Pics to follow soon!

Sincerely,

Jody Holbrook

Great to hear Ashton is doing so well!!!
A few updates on Fund Raising for the Ashton Fund....
1. The Ashton Fund is now (and in the process of firmly becoming) a Non-for-Profit legally certified organization.
2. Through the end of the show season we are going to be running a RAFFLE for a tackle box (manufacture to be determined) FULL an assortment of baits. Unlike most raffles though, the chance to win this one comes WITH something for YOU other than just a ticket. For each entry of $5 each person with get a lure tuner from Bucher Tackle ($11 value in itself) and a refrigerator magnet with the MuskieFirst logo on it. We have 1,000 packs ready to go, and will supply updates over the next months as to what EXACTLY is in the tacklebox!
*if anyone has NEW or personally manufactured baits you are just DYING to part with, email me....
3. It is MANY months away, but I anticipate another Live and Board Run Auction sometime in late January or February.
4. Some kind of benefit tournament will be held....just a few raw ideas rolling around in my head right now. Think late June or July.

The Ashton Fund has raised well over $15K at this point, and now we're just getting rolling!!!

Thanks for the update and the really great news. Makes this Monday seem just a little bit more bearable.
Slamr, I have a new Lakeside Upright box that I was thinking of selling. If a manufacturer cannot be found to donate a box, would this one fill your needs? Let me know before I sell the darn thing.

I am glad his latest surgery went well.[]

I would be glad to donate some baits to the raffle.

Last year there was a swap meet at smokey's, it was a blast. Would be great to do it again as a fundraiser for Ashton. Hint hint.[:)]

NEEDING YOUR HELP BOYS AND GIRLS!!! Trying to think of a good name for the raffle we are going to be doing this winter/show season for the Ashton Fund. Only OK thought I can come up with is Ashton Fund's Winter Raffle for the Rugrat. That name kinda SUCKS now that I am thinking about it....lets call it a contest, winner gets a guided day with me? Though many think that is a curse! LOL LOL LOL LOL
