| Bought a Daiwa Saltist for 50% off. New at BPS; had the box, no paperwork, reel was complete. Would like to hear thoughts on the reel from people who have actually used it. Seems to cast nicely, gears built for saltwater, and has line retrieve of 32" per handle turn. Surprised that it doesn't have the levelwind - thought the Saltist did, but I bought it anyhow. Also would like advice on how to keep the line leveled out while using this reel.
Thanks!! |

Location: Gilberts IL/Rhinelander WI | You better start practicing casting now, that way you may possibly be able to use it by June |

Location: Chisholm, MN | I have the level wind ones. Love the reels but you gotta be careful how you engage and disengage the clutch. The spring can break inside especially on an older one. Just make sure you don't stop the bait during a cast by engaging the clutch. Let it hit the water first. Also disengaging the clutch while there is pressure on the line can be hard on it. I'm not sure how to explain that. Good luck |

| I originally bought a Saltist for throwing Cowgirls but soon realized they are more suited for big plastics (Medussa's, Dawgs, etc) They cast the plastics much better and there is virtually no slack line. I now own 2 (one for mags, one for pounders) |

| So what do you mean need to practice casting? Is it because of no levelwind, or you think the Saltist in general casts poorly? |
