Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | There's an OARS phone right at Young's Bay. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/pleasure_boats/boats/oars.xmlphon... You just go in the phone booth and punch the Canadian Flag button. The Canadian custons agent will want to know your boat number and it's description. They'll also need the name and birth date of anyone with you. Tell them you'll be staying in Canada for the number of days you will be staying. They'll ask the usual customs questions and give you a release number that you should have with you if you are checked on the water by Canadian customs. You'll also need to stop at Jim's corner when arriving and check through US customs, and again call Canadian customs when you leave and repot through. Not as bad as it sounds. Location: Not far enough north! | You'll be fine, just make sure you get a good map for the section of the lake you will be fishing. I usually carry a spotlight in the boat too so we can shine incase we get into an area that we don't know after dark. Do not just pay attention to your gps but learn the landmarks close to camp so you can get back of there is a electronic failure... Good luck you'll love LOTW

Posts: 439 Location: Lake of the Woods, Morson, Ontario | GREAT advice from, Rick. Do NOT rely only on GPS map software to navigate. Also double check with your hydrographic Lake of the Woods map prior to venturing into new areas.....any "paper" map other than a hydrograhic map of LOTW is a waste of money. Then, there is the further disclaimer of "not every rock is marked" regardless of what type of map you might be using. You'll never want to fish anywhere else once you get on LOTW though!

To reaffirm previous posts, there are rocks that are not on any map. Go slow when traveling in unfamiliar water. Last summer, I "found" one of the unmarked rocks. I had traveled through that spot several times before and never noticed the rock. I was moving slow so when I hit it, only the prop was bent. The water is stained and you can hit a rock that you don't see--even if it is sunny out and you are wearing polarized lenses. Brian
