Location: Maine Township, MN | I've been looking at fishfinders to use my tax $$$ on in a couple months. I can't afford an HDS, but it would be nice to have downscan imaging. What I found is a Humminbird that allows you to use downscan, traditional sonar, and GPS. http://store.humminbird.com/products/410761/597ci_HD_DI_Combo
The only ones Lowrance offers in my budget are the Elite-5 Series, but you can only get one with sonar and GPS (Elite-5 http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/Elite-Series/Elite-5/) or the other with downscan and GPS (Elite-5 DSI http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/Elite-Series/Elite-5-DSI/). There isn't a Lowrance (besides HDS) that will do both.
One or the other... The bummer is I can get into the Elite-5 (GPS and traditional sonar) with rebate for $350 whereas the 597ci HD DI Combo is $650...
What do you think? |

| You can get a HDS 5 for that price range. You don't have to have a 10 inch screen to use it effectively. Very happy with the 5 I have. |

Location: South Portsmouth, KY | The only bad thing that I have seen on the elite 5s is that they take a mini sd card. So all of the regular navionics and lake master cards you might have will not work. |

| i have an Elite-5 on an aluminum boat that I take into the Boundary Waters and I love it. The Sonar and the mapping has been good. The quality of mapping and sonar is very comparable to the lowrance LCX models. |
