Location: Elgin, IL | Was wondering what anybody can tell me about this reel. Someone had given it to me and has just been sitting around.
Is there any value in this? Booklet in case had 1987printed on the back page.

| That reel is earlier than 1987. The grooved sidplates is a dead give a way that it's older. I would guess it to be from the early 70's, possible late 60's. It has some collector value but the value of older reels has plummeted in recent years. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | The thumb screws are another give-away. The reels from 1970 and later are slotted and knurled. That reel is from the 60's. |

| Thanks guys. To be honest year may be 1967. My bifocals aren't that nice to me. Actually thought it was older. Case has that smell. Any idea on value or how I can find this out? |

| As for a value it's tough to say but your reel seems to be in real nice shape. If it had 4 screws versus the 3 it has on the left side plate or tapered cross members on the frame it would be worth a little more. I would keep my eye on eBay to see what similiar 6000's are going for. I would guess in the $150 range. FYI 10 years ago that reel would probably have brought around $300. I remember seeing chanpagne colored 5000D's going for over $5000 back then! |
