I have a 1750 with a Merc 115 two stroke on it. I run about 43 mph consistently (GPS speed). I keep hearing from other owners that they can get about 50 out of the same rig. I run about 5000 rpm (I think the top end on my motor is 5200).

Is it possible I have to change the motor height on my rig by moving it up a hole for more speed? It is currently in the middle hole on the mounting bracket.

What are the rest of you hawk owners finding, and please don't add the obligatory "mine is bigger than yours" five miles an hour. I am trying too see if I need to do any tweaking over the winter.

Norm,

Sounds a bout right, at 43 GPS. I get about 51-54 GPS loaded with my 1700 Angler SS with 135 Opti. That's with a 23P Lazer II, about 5200 RPM. Similar sized boats, I think.

50 with a 115 is probably the "Speedo" reading, and not GPS.

Tight lines,

nwild, my dad has an 1850 with a 125 and it will do 44 loaded. A stainless prop may help gain a mile per hour or two and changing pitch may help rpm but could hurt mph.

I just got a Merc 115 4-stroke and I had to move the motor up 2 holes. I just got it back from the dealer, but the dealer said that he was getting about 42 mph. I traded a 2 stroke 75 in and I was getting 37-38 mph with it. I thought I would get more out of the 115 than 4 mph. I am also using a SS 17 pitch prop. Hope this helps.

YOu can raise the motor a hole or two to get more rpm/top speed, but at the cost of more fuel consumption. Doubt you will get more than 1 or 2 mph out of it, so its your preference. A ss prop should add a little top end too.

Just my experience from my fishhawk.

I run approx. 46-47 with my 1750, dc Mercury 115 2 stroke wot 2 x- large musky nuts :), reading on my GPS ( my speedo reads 51-52 while my gps reads 46-47 ). You have to play with your power trim to get the most rpm and mph......I would assume however that you have tried this.

Norm, I have a 1750SC with a 115 mariner. I get about 45mph on my speedo when I'm alone and 41 to 43 with 1 or 2 more people. My motor is set one notch below center. I've been told to move it up a notch or two, but I think I'll get sloppy on me at full throttle, I like the way it handles now. Hope this helps. Timbuck. [:praise:]
