From what I understand, they are only available March 1, 2012. There will be some at Chicago to look at and possibly test, but not purchase. That's what I have taken from everything I have heard.

Drop by the Shimano Booth they will have all the info for you , I heard that preorders will be taken from the Shimano Dealers on site and the first 100 orders receive a Tranx Reel cover . Dale

Posts: 1318 Location: Lebanon,Mo | For one...most musky guys wont need this reel till June,no need to "pre-order",there will be more than enough out there,a ton more for saltwater use.I will have one in March maybe if i decide to get one and will have a coupon for 100.00 off retail.Check it out at the Shows, see what you think, and go from there....

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | John Mazurkiewicz from Shimano email me last week and said they will have the TRANX for display only. So at least U will be able to fondle it, I hope they have it on a rod so U can cast it at the pool, that would be nice but I don't think that will happen. Posts: 1220 | Like I said on another thread, I stopped by Monday at R&H on the way home from the UP hoping to see the TranX. I was told that while there were none there yet, they expected that several will be in and for sale at the Chicago show. I was also told that several guys had ordered them already sight-unseen. I am probably going to want to try one, but I want the thing in my hands before I spend that kind of money...so I will be among those wanting to see the thing in Chicago. Marty

There will be Tranx to cast at the Chicago Muskie show. I have casted this reel and you will be blow away. But also at the you will see the new Shimano Musky Waxwing lure at the show in 8 freshwater colours (love the Perch) See you guys there...

Posts: 716 | Just what is it that we will be "blown away by"? Power, speed, smoothness, casting distance, quality all combined with ease of use. I know it sounds a bit sappy but it's true. Edited by bturg 12/30/2011 9:51 AM

Looks like an awesome reel, but I have a hard time believing it willl be that much better than many of the cheaper options out there. Dont get me wrong if I was a pro athlete or fished for a living I wouldn't have nay problem dropping that much cash. Just seems like this reel is for a very small target market.

Posts: 716 | Snook, Bull redfish, tarpon, stripers, sharks, sails, permit, wahoo, salmon, sturgeon, durado, grouper, sea bass etc. the market is huge...we just happen to be a tiny part of it. It's not cheap but neither are Taylormades, Brownings, Matthews, and Ferraris...the good stuff costs more. Not for everyone or everything but for specific applications they are awesome and game changing.

Must have lefty... Must have lefty... Amen! I am both a saltwater and fresh/musky fisherman. The market is HUGE for this reel... Why not make both right and left handed models so that everyone can use one. It is ridiculous! I would by one of each gear ratio if they were avilable in left hand.

Tranx may have all that but it's still a crossover reel and low profile and everyone who goes to fondle it should tell shimano you won't be baited in to be bonus market share to who the reel was really designed and aimed to please. I guess I'm bonus share buyer Who cares, Thank U Shimano for making this reel, I have been waiting for 5 years for this reel. Also on Fri nite at 5:30pm at the Chicago Musky show Larry D is having a reel burning contest at the pool, should be fun to watch and U can see for yourself how fast this reel is.

So what exactly would your "TE on steroids" include? I was thinking along similar lines as you before this reel came out, but then when I saw it I think I was actually happier with the TranX as it is than I would've been with what I'd had in mind before. I feel like the only difference between your idea and the TranX is the low-profile design, which to me seems like a bonus since it'll be easier to hold.

From watching videos and reading the reviews of people that have actually had a chance to use prototypes, the TranX really isn't the typical low-profile reel. It sits higher and is much larger than Toros and Curados. It seems as though it is mostly just a low-profile in appearance. I suppose we'll have to see it in person, though.
