Was on Detroit River today and got cutoff repeatedly by guys who looked as though they should know better (judging by their boats and tackle - they are not new to the sport)
By cutoff, I mean they purposely motored past us, and settled down-current 60 yds in front of us so that they could fish the fresh water.
Ironically, we saw one of these boats in the morning in the same spot, drifting down, and chose to go way up river as they were there first.
Greedy, rude people annoy me. This is what made me stop steelheading on foot.
We decided to let it go at the time, but it is still lingering a bit.
Just needed to rant.
Have never had this happen on the Niagara.

PS: lost 4 muskies and landed zero. That makes ten fish lost in a row for me - all on initial headshake. I am hitting them hard and soft - tried it all. Frustrating!
Still looking forward to next weekend though:)

Its a public river. But some people just need a spoon tossed their way to remind them to wait there turn.

i live on the river or 1 mile from it.
many guys jig walleyes and drift down and run back up. musky guys used to troll the runs. etiqutte, has been inside going up outside going downriver. sadly theres guys sitting in the middle of the trolling runs and that can create opinions.
heres my best approach.
go during the week. you will be the only boat there.

I was jigging downstream on the outside edges.
The budders knew exactly what they were doing - they wanted to be first through the run.
Overall - was a good day.
There will always be "one" in every crowd.

You shouldn't let this bother you so much. I've caught plenty of fish behind people who have done the same thing. Once you're annoyed though, forget it. If you're not on your game 100% while jigging, you'll lose more than you catch. I assume you were jigging and I know ignoring morons is easier said than done. Good luck.

I was jigging and they were casting so it likely would make no difference following them - just the point of it really.
99% of muskie guys I meet are awesome - friendly helpful, cooperative...

I fish the Detroit River 20 to 30 times a year for both musky & walleye. What you experienced happens EVERY TIME I fish the DR. This year was by far the worst for getting my drift cutoff by other musky guys.

The more big fish reports put out by Bondy the more the fishing pressure for musky has been. Me & my buddies would go out there for musky & on most days it would just be us & Jon Bondy out with his clients. This year it's everyone & their uncle out on the DR. It got so bad back in the beginning of the season that I stopped going out there. Only made one fall trip for musky on the DR this year & I don't plan to go out there again this year.

If you are doing to fish the Detroit River and LSC you will need to get used to the rudeness.

Exactly why I don't fish that area anymore, after years of enjoying that spot. There are other places in the system to catch multiple fish over 50 in a day casting.

Happens to me all the time as I am fishing from a kayak but not on the Detroit River. I'll let it go but how do people not notice 12" lures being cast or the direction of the current? Very frustrating. Makes you want to play leapfrog with them but this never results in a musky. I have had one guy realize and apologize. Made my day.
Happens at the launch as well. Getting in the car 200 ft from kayak at launch and somebody not ready to put in pulls down the ramp and starts loading their boat from their truck. Gotta share the water and ramp so I let it pass and carry kayak and remaining gear. Not always easy after paddle trolling musky lures in a kayak and putting a full day or night in
