| Looks like lake temps are on the decline again after the little warm up we had with the Indian Summer. Looking at the 10 day weather forecast, I'm guessing with the night temps in the 30's and 10 -15 mph winds the next couple of days the metro lakes will be turning over by mid week. Any thoughts?

Location: Hugo, MN | I'd say it's going to happen quick, and it's about time. Temps this morning were 58 degrees. It was 59 three weeks ago.

| From what I heard Forest was just starting to turn before the warm up we had about 10 days ago, probably see a few lakes turn twice?

| On Tonka this morning. Temps still 59-60. |

| The key is layering not temp, drop a probe down and see. Monday 0-35 feet 59-60 degrees on my probe...main lake Tonka....no layering =no thermocline=turnover has happened. At least in that area.

| To expound a bit, temp is only a part of it, with 20-40 mph wind like we have had much of the last two weeks you are simply going to have mixing...no way around it. There is simply no magic temp that turnover happens at...it is simply one piece of the puzzle. |

Location: Maple Grove, MN | I agree that wind is a big deal. The wind seems to be an important factor why Mille Lacs never seems to have a turn-over. The wind keeps the water mixed and a thermocline cannot set up. It sure seems like the high winds are going to mix everything up. Sure makes sense to me.
One thing that I have learned is what the wind can do to currents both shallow and deep. The water goes one direction on the surface, but another on the bottom which is often in the opposite direction. I have found some really nice fish by locating where the deep currents funnel. Locate those areas of deep current and one can have lots of fun.  |

| It could be, additionally if your on a milfoil lake it seems that at this time of year huge chunks of it become up rooted and float around as well...it happens all through fall not just during the process of turnover. |
