I have taken to giving the fish a second or two after the initial attack until I FEEL the fish, much like a surface bait hook set. Am I goofy, or on to something? The fish I have managed to remember to do this with were firmly pinned up.[:0]

I throw a glider the whole month of september and lose 50% of the fish I don't let take it down. Remember the toy boat story this summer. Once they hit they have eating on thier little mind.[;)]

I think waiting until you feel them is a good idea and seems to work. Or you can be like me and have the worlds slowest reactions and it all evens out.[:p]

As an X moto-xer and downhill ski racer, I thought I had fast reflexes. I have seen these fish grab the bait, swollow it, $h!t it out, and be back on the bottom, before I could even think about setting hooks. I think I have somewhat accepted the fact, that you don't get em all. But you gotta love the ones that set the hook for you, especially when you'r not paying attention.

I think I'll try that method. I'm a hideous 2 for 6 over my last 2 outings.

Raze is right. Sometimes its better if you are not paying attention. Last week I had't seen a fish all day. I casted half way across the lake and when the lure was 5 ft. in front of me the biggest fish of the year came out of nowhere and would of had that glider at her a-hol when I paniced and pulled it out of her mouth. You are goofy but you are right on, I treat gliders the same as topwaters.

Then explain the ones we missed last week..[:knockout:]
Man you had at least two that must have had for second and nothing...those were weird fish.

Wait till their out of the water shaking it in front of you...[;)]

Steve I think your on the right track. I always wait till you actually fel the fish with gliders. I also modify mine and use to slipt rings hanging fro the screw eye instead of on. I had to go down 1 size in the hooks to prevent tangles every cast. I think with less restriction on the hook I am getting a better hooking percentage.

Longer rods help, but I batted 500 on squirkos on Cass so what am I saying.[:knockout:]

Be ready, dont jump the gun, set on the feel as much as possible.

Worral hit the nail on the head, you need to set the hooks the same way you would with a surface bait. This is a case where I don't always practice what I'm preaching here; it can be really tempting to set the hook right away!

If I had to think about setting the hook, I'd never catch a fish. I never really thought about it, but I guess that I set when I feel them because I sure as heck have some reason for setting the hook like a lunatic!

A fool and his fish are soon parted Sworrall.
This is not going to be one of the methods I plan on trying.

I believe in setting on sight with gliders and jerks. The only thing you do by hesitating is lower your hooking percentage. When they turn they have it and it's time to set. I have been the idiot spectator on too many unfelt hits to even consider this method.
I have to throw jerks and gliders way too much and I set on the flash and feel strongly about it. The ONLY WAY!!!

Frankly I am surprised you would even consider such a thing.
