It is with a great deal of sadness to report that the founder and First President of Capital City Muskies Inc., Chapter 8, has left this earth after a 2.5 year battle with cancer. Bill was instrumental in helping to create an excellent muskie fishery on the Yahara Chain of Lakes in the Madison, Wis. area from the 1980s to present. There were virtually no muskies left in the Yahara Chain until stocking efforts began with DNR and Chapter 8 in the early 1980s. Bill led that effort.

Bill was inducted into the Muskies Inc. Hall of Fame and was also a key player in starting up the Advanced and Intermediate Muskie School in the Madison area 11 years ago. Bill had a special place in his heart for Eagle Lake, Ontario and caught and released several muskies over 50" on that body of water. But perhaps his favorite place was Lake Winter, Wis. where he began to fish the Brunet River well before the Dam was built. A CCMI annual muskie outing has been held in Bills name at Winter for the past 28 years.

Services are pending. A celebration of his life is to be held in Dane, Wis. Aug 10 or 11th. Rest in Peace Woody.

I met Bill at the 1st meeting I went to in January 1985. He was such a dedicated person, seeing that we get muskies in the Madison Lakes. He worked very closely with the WDNR and got them help when they needed it, if it was man power or purchasing nets. He also was the liaison between the Cap City and the Portage Muskie Club which got an old sewage treatment plant to raise muskies in and was called the Portage Project. I can remember when we got pumps from the Village of Cross Plains for the Portage Project and the guys didn't have a key to the gate, but did have a bolt cutter to get in. I also remember plenty of trips with him to Canada, up north, or to a National Muskies Inc Meeting where I met many fine folks like Kermit Benson, George Sandell, Frank Schneider, Keith Ogden, and the list goes on.

Bill we are going to miss you.

Bill was a great guy... he always made me chuckle when he played the grumpy old man and then gave a little smirk.

Madison musky fisherman owe a lot to Bill...

From Woody's obit that will appear in tomorrow's paper:

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Care for being so kind and attentive to Bill and his family throughout his long battle with prostate cancer and its many complications. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Bill’s name may do so to Hospice Care Inc. or to the Capital City Chapter of Muskies, Inc.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday , August 11th from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Village of Dane Community Center, 102 West Main Street, Dane, WI. Family and friends are encouraged to attend to enjoy food, refreshments and celebrate Bill’s life.

Just a reminder that tomorrow (Thrs August 11) from 4:30-8:30 the family is hosting a celebration of Bill's life in Dane, WI. It will be a great opportunity to share Bill Wood muskie stories and experiences with his family and friends. So please join us! The family wants this to be a fun get together and a good time.

He made a big difference and we're gonna miss this guy.

Bill did a lot for many years to promote CPR, stocking and habitat improvement. He worked tirelessly to enhance the Muskie fisheries and to promote camradarie amongst muskie anglers.

Sue and I are in Arkansas at the FLW Cup, or we'd be there. We both will miss Bill.

Wish we could be there!

My thoughts go out to Bill, family, and friends. He was a true ambassador to the sport and was a great role model for future muskie fisherman.

Now he can catch as many muskies as he wants!

Thanks Bill!

My Condolences to the family and the Capitol City chapter for their loss. Bill helped me bringing in the Capitol City Chapter in the Madison Fishing Expo. I just want to mention this as many never knew how Bill was one of the orginals on the first board of Madison Fishing Expo.

Doug, I had forgotten all about how Woody was involved in MFE. Thanks for the reminder.

FYI - its Capital not Capitol
