| Will be trying hard-ripping baits this season but I'd appreciate advice that may short cut a bit of the work.....and pain (important at my age.)
I have tried it using spinnerbaits and it certainly works, Jakes too.
Do you use it much with believers....if so straight or jointed....bulldawgs , others?
Any suggestions for other good rip baits would be appreciated.
How useful a technique is it with open water fish over deep water compared to other casting techniques?
I'd like any suggestions regarding rod length , I have been using a 6 1/2 foot stiff rod but wonder what a longer rod would be like.
Am I right that this is a deadly, under-used method that is not often employed mainly because of the effort needed?

Location: Smith Creek | Depthraiders jointed or straight are good bait for ripping as well. Very useful over open water... long rod is a must. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | I would try a 7'6" - 8' Rod maybe a H or XH, once you have a fish on with a lock down drag and 80-100lb braid the rod is the only thig that will flex and you will need that to keep your fish from ripping the hooks out of his mouth. Also a 7'6" - 8' rod is better for a fig 8.
Also use your thumb on the spool when ripping, that will save your A/R Bearing in your reel. GOOD LUCK |
