Knooter,

Beautiful work man!!!!!!

How are they weighted? What type of wood? Slow sink or Neutrally buoyant?

Top notch,

MS

These are some of the last maple bodies I'll be doing. I've been finding that even though I weight them all the same, some just will not glide just right. Im a perfectionist and I won't sell a bait that doesn't work the way it's supposed to. I like gliders that almost walk themselves. I've found that with cedar I have more consistent bouyancy, thus less duds. I'm also going to make some out of resin, but probably not during the fishing season. I plan on making a good sized batch of 8 and 10" gliders once I get some more cedar. Maybe 60 baits or so. I'll post them on here when they're done and I'm ready to part with a few. Right now it's musky season, so progress is slow at times.

As far as these baits go, they are very slow sinking. When I weighted the blanks I made them neutrally bouyant. Once hooks and paint and clearcoat are added, I get the desired sink rate. I weight them in the head and tail using melted lead. Once the lead hardens, I check the bouyancy and make adjustments as needed. It has taken a LOT of experimenting with weight placement and amount.

When I start making them out of cedar again I will hopefully be able to get more of a standardized process down. Usually, I make one or two baits at a time and don't keep track of how I made them.

Joe, we'll have to get together soon. I'll give you a call one of these days and we can set something up.

I made up 10 bodies tonight, and have enough cedar to do about 20 more. I'll make these all 10" models, and then make up about 30 of the 8 inchers later. I've played with a 6" model, too, but haven't gotten one to run just right yet. I think the 6 inchers may end up being made out of 1" instead of 1 1/4" cedar.

Hey I have been making small gliders for trout and have been having a blast with them. I was wanting to know just how far of a glider path you are getting side to side and do you find that some swim farther to one side than the other?die

Generally the smaller the glider, the less side to side travel you will see. Mass in motion stays in motion, and bigger heavier baits seem to maintain momentum better than the smaller baits. These ones glide out a couple feet each direction pretty easily, and have a nice swimming motion on a straight retrieve.

Thaks for your reply, they are really nice looking lures. I love the paint job on them and am waiting till my skills get as good as yours and some others I have seen. fading gills gives me the hardest time. shoot me an email sometime I would love to learn more about your painting skills and lure making that may help me improve my skills. Good fishing and thanks again. [email protected]

I think I have the new cedar blanks weighted the way I want. The test bait glides out an honest two feet each direction pretty easily, and it has a little shimmy on the pause. I'll be getting 20 or 30 of these guys ready for paint over the next couple weeks. I'll post some more pics when they are done.

I fish with knooter all the time and am lucky enough to experiment with some of these gliders. The paint jobs are top notch and the action they provide is simply awesome.
