| I have a new reel that is "screaming" on the cast. Everything with the reel is just fine other than sometimes it makes an annoying sound during the cast. It will be fine all day and then for 5-10 casts it will make a screaming noise but only on the cast. Then it goes away and everything is fine again.
How do i fix this? I'm sure its just some simple lubing but I'm just wondering what I need to look for specifically. Thanks in advance. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | I would almost bet it's an Abu I have had and seen many that would scream on the first 5 or so casts after not being used fo a couple of days. |

Location: St.John, Indiana | I agree with Abu, even a little moisture in the reel would make them scream. Even if oiled/lubed. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | It can be 1 of 2 things:
1 - take the bearing out of the reel and spray them with carb cleaner and then soak overnite in Acetone, let them dry and reoil with any good reel oil, I like Hot Sauce Oil, 1 ONE DROP in each bearing only. Spool Bearing must be reoiled once a month during the season.
2 - Take a look at the spool brakes, the little plastic brakes on the side of the spool, make sure all are clean and then look at the spool brake ring and make it is clean, most are brass so use a little brass cleaner to polish the ring bright, after that apply a light coat of Hot Sauce Grease to the ring, a very light coat. Most reels have 6 spool brakes, I would pull open 2-4 brakes, push them in to turn off.
3- I hope U don't have the cast control knob cranked down tight ???? if you do back it off.
Give it a try U should be ok now. PM me for any ????? U have.

| It is an Okuma Red Isis 250. I didn't post that because I was hoping to stay away from a brand wars discussion ya know. I'm pretty sure moisture is causing the problem, I'm using 80 lb spectron and that stuff sure holds water. Also it never happens until I'm using the reel for a few hours.
THANKS for the ideas and pictures, I'll be sure to do all of that and hopefully it will fix the problem! Really appreciate it
Oh and I have 4 of the 6 spool breaks engaged and leave the cast control knob as loose as possible. |

Location: big cove tannery pa | Mine only does it to when there is alot of moisture on the reel. Dang Vicious braid repels water and comes straight up into my spool. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Okuma a good reel, I would ck the spool bearings for sure and if you see any rust U will have to replace them. I always bring in my reels at night and let them dry out in the warm house, I know alot of guys leave there reels in the boat locker after a trip, U should bring them in the house so they can dry out. Ck out the NEW Suffix 832, it does not hold water. After the season send me your reel for Tuning U won't be sorry U did. |

| not sure why everyone says this braid doesnt hold water...why is my hand always wet then .... it might be a little better than power pro but not by much, and yes i have it on two reels... |

Maybe you have sweaty Hands, LOL, LOL ???????
I have it 8 reels and my hands stay dry for the most part. After the wax coating comes off PowerPro that line will soak up water like a mop. To each there own 832. |

It might help to grease the back of the large nylon coq wheel, that drives the levelvind. Often they are not greased from the factory. |
