Posts: 199 Location: Nebraska | As we can only get to Canada once a year in September, my buddy and I wanted to try our hand at something close to home just to scratch the itch. We are in Lincoln, NE so Brushy and Three Mile are both about a three hour drive. We were planning on trying one or the other the weekend of 6/25. Any suggestions of which would be the better choice? I searched here but most references were in the 06-08 range and both were just coming into their own then. If they are a tossup, which would have the better bass fishing and/or less pressure? PM would be fine if you don't want to post here. Thanks in advance for any direction.

Location: Des Moines IA | I was just on Brushy last weekend pan fishing with my buddy and his kids. I've only lived here 2 years, but in that time, I've never heard anything about muskies being caught in Three Mile. Definitely hear about them being caught out of Brushy though. I would say, Brushy definitely gets more pressure as well, as it's one of the best walleye lakes in the state.

Posts: 793 Location: Ames, Iowa | Brushy is a very deep lake with a ton of vertical structure-trees. If you plan to fish for gills or other panfish be ready to fish vertically. When I've been there it is either a huge miss or a hit. Has plenty of muskies in it and a lot of them end up going over the spillway. Last week it was very clear. I've heard good things about 3 Mile and realize it is similar in appearance to Brushy. I would suggest you go to Iowa Outdoors and check out the various fishing forums there. Very cooperative guys there who will help you. Don

Posts: 785 | 3 Mile is a little older lake so the trees are easier to fish in and around. The lake also has a good number of clean rip-rapped shorelines which let you get some air and a couple humps if you can find them. I far prefer it over brushy but last few years the bass tournaments have been almost unbearable out there. Lots of big bass in the lake but it gets hit every weekend it seems. If you can go when there isn't one than it should be nice. If bass are your secondary goal there's also some other nice lakes nearby for those. Brushy is a beautiful lake but it is THICK with brush. Lots of areas you won't be making full length casts. I also wouldn't bring a real nice boat here that you'd be afraid to add a couple scratches to. Bass fishing is really good on Brushy but recently I was told a lot of tournaments are starting to hit it as well. Last I knew they were far less pressured on that lake than compared to 3 Mile. I haven't fished either for a couple years but I've spent lots of time on both. Fish in both lakes go over the spillway bad and from my experience both are feast or famine when it comes to the musky bite. Regardless there beautiful lakes and it should be a fun time either way. Catch a biggin!

Posts: 199 Location: Nebraska | Thanks for the replies. It looks like a tossup. Brushy is 4 hours and a bass tournament on Sunday. Three mile is 3 hours but has a bass tournament on Saturday and one on Sunday. I'm still leaning towards Three Mile as it's just a two day weekend, which is pushing my limits for towing for two days of fishing. Hate the thought of dodging bass tournaments on little 400 and 600 acre lakes. If I was going to Brushy, it's a no-brainer to drive another half hour to Okoboji. All in all, I'm thinking of just holding off a week or two until I can get a three day weekend and can justify the drive to Boji.
