Why has the muskie fishing been so tough this year in Indiana? Thoughts? Opinions?

Posts: 20194 Location: oswego, il | Water clarity sucks with all this extra runoff. I have actually looked at the water on lakes this year and not even launched the boat. History has told me it's not productive in those conditions. When you can smell manure while your out fishing and you get alot of rain, guess where it ends up.

Posts: 489 | This spring has been so un stable. high 50's and rain all spring forced a very late spawn.fish the open water....thats where they are.

Cuz those crazy Indy corn- fed skis just ain't ready to chew yet. Probably all filled up on shad, bluegills, and suckers from the early springtime. They don't have to work too hard to find an easy meal. Those Indy skis are "SMART" cuz they get picked on all the time. Maybe they'll be ready to eat in the fall------maybe? Good luck---Jobu

Although fishing has been tough this year, one guide has stood tall through it all. Chae Dolsen again is the one who leads the way in Indiana. There are always guides that make big claims but Chae just puts his pictures up on his website to let them do his talking for him. I have been compelled to post something of this nature for Chae for a long time and for whatever reason I have not until now. If you are coming to Webster Indiana area to fish musky, call Chae, he'll make your trip memorable hands down. Here in the though times of 2011 he again has led the way.

I met Chae down there about ten years ago and I totally agree with you the guy always puts fish in the boat. He is the man down there . Year after year he gets numbers and size

Posts: 19 | Also going to agree, Chae knows where the fish are. I have stayed at his cabin's plenty of times. He will help you find the fish, just a couple pictures of the 2 Muskies I caught on Webster in June of this Summer 2011. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/socaplaya38/DSCN2911-1.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/socaplaya38/DSCN2914-1.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/socaplaya38/DSCN2920.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h42/socaplaya38/DSCN2924-1.jpg

Posts: 193 Location: Mayer, MN | I used to buy tackle from Parker's and fish monster steelhead on my lunch break during my college internship. That was a lot fun! Awesome Steelhead fishing in this area. If those fish are reaching this area from Lake Michigan they are swimming through 4 or 5 DNR swim ladders to reach there. There have documented catches up stream also at the confluence of the Elkhart and St. Joseph rivers. To get downstream would be interesting considering the Twin Branch Dam is Mishawaka I believe would impede the muskie's travels. "Hubbard immediately took the fish to Parker's Central Park Bait and Tackle in Mishawaka to have it weighed on certified scales. The fish was filleted that afternoon and barbecued for dinner that evening. "I've tasted just about every kind of fish from that river and the muskie is one of the best tasting fish I've eaten," Hubbard said." I grew up in the area, and the above sounds about par for the course. ![]() Edited by lots of luck 10/5/2011 1:04 PM

Posts: 17 | We fish tippy this weekend along with quite a few others out there and I only herd of 2 middle 30 inch fish caught and no one else had really even seen anything else. We dragged suckers all day as well with no luck. I talked with a few guides at the ramp who also said fishing has been super slow this past week so I wouldn't say it's been to good yet. I would think in the next few weeks it should start to come around though. Also fished Webster and only saw a few other boats out fishing Muskie and only herd of 2 caught all day
