Thanks for sharing info about this bill for all to see. Otherwise I would have had no idea. I just called and shared my opinion. The lady was very nice and said they tally all feedback daily so keep calling folks!

Called to submit my veto request. It's time for us to stop waiting to take action and really commit to something collectively. We need to circle the capital with boats in tow block all traffic, let TV reporters know what we're up to, and get some real media coverage for the issues.

After that works we can go do it to the casinos to demand renegotiation of the netting.

Guest I would love to see a ocean of Boats around that place, its not just a Muskie and Pike deal Now they are doing the same with Deer management (not allowing the DNR to have the ability to set protective regs) and giving all the money from our voluntary Walleye stamp to only private fish growers so zero would go to the DNR. This is as much anti-DNR as anything; so sure go slap the department in the face, sock em in the jaw but dont destroy our fishery and our Hunti

Interesting to see the Governor's response directly addresses spearing on Cass lake and reducing the number of lakes with northern pike slot limits.

This is an example of when government works! Though in my opinion there should never be this type of things left up to legislators at least our voices were heard.

Great news and a special thanks to all who called and emailed. The legislature really got this wrong and the Governor is to be commended for his insight and support of the State of Minnesota!

We all should buy a round for Shawn, John, and the others, who have spent countless hours at the Capital this session.

Governor Dayton " I have heard from many individuals and groups who believe they have not been adequately heard in this discussion"

Thank You for the 19000+ MN resident emails on these issues this year and the countless calls over the past few weeks to the Governor. Huge thanks to all of you, we just send the message.

Thank You

Good work! Wish they would leave this type of work to the DNR instead of politicians!

Way to go John and all the others for a fine job well done. I have never had the pleasure to actually meet John (MuskieFool) in person but I met him on his web site a couple of years ago. Determination, thats what it takes and thats what John & the others have. I think everyone should give all of them a huge thank you. Congrats John. Ken Schmitz (Mylures)

Awesome news!!

Thank you Gov Dayton!! Remember that this bill was put forward by the right and killed by the left.

So next time you want to say something negative about us, keep it to yourself

Actually lifting the spearing ban on Cass was vetoed by Govs from each party, Dayon-(D) this year Pawlenty-(R) last year. There is no "left or right" in this fight, common sense has prevailed finally.

I agree that this is not a partisan issue. Last year a Democrat controlled legislature passed the bill and a Republican governor vetoed it. This year a Republican controlled legislature passed the bill and a Democrat governor vetoed. If anything, this is a legislature versus DNR issue and the two governors have both sided with the DNR.

The darkhouse association did raise one good point - why do different lakes have such different Northern Pike slot regulations? Maybe there should be a 30 to 40 inch protected Northern Pike slot on all lakes statewide. Just do away with the special slot regulations and have the same Pike slot regulation for all lakes and for spearers and anglers alike. Of course, Pike would still be protected from spearing on the same lakes that are protected now. This shouldn't matter to the darkhouse association because they say they only look at big Pike anyway and just take the smaller Pike for eating.

What do you all think?

Each lake has its own needs for managing the population so the slots could be different on them. Look at walleyes regs for instance I don't see any difference here.

Good point, Captain. It seems the DNR is doing a good job so it makes no sense to react to the darkhouse association.

Although nice to breath a sigh of relief on this....there is still the chance it could come back in special session. So be at the ready. What really bothers me though is that this junk legislation passed both the House & the Senate!! Two years in a row it has taken the Governor to balance this out. Bad JuJu for sure! We need to stop this stuff before it gets to the Gov.
Thank you Shawn, John, Dan & all that worked hard on this again.
