Getting some conflicting info.

If I buy an HDS5 & HDS7, what do i need to connect them to share GPS data?

I would like each to have its own transducer (univeral up front for HDS5)(regular on back for HDS7).

Thx...RJ

This all depends on what devices you'll be using. I'm assuming you just want the ability to share GPS data and the ability to pick which transducer you want each unit to use depending on if your on the bow of the boat or the console, correct?

If this is all your wanting to do, then the only thing you'll need is a Ethernet cable, the one with the yellow connectors on the end.

Yep that is it.

I would actually rather be able to use individual sonar data from the front and the back, but the main thing is the gps data.

You'll be able to do both with just the Ethernet cable. You will quickly find that being able to pick which transducer you want is a very nice thing. When both units are using separate ducers, you will get some vertical lines(interference) between the two. By choosing the same ducer for both, you will eliminate that interference. You certainly don't have to utilize that function though, but it's capable.

Just curious as to why you want to share GPS data between two identical units which both have internal GPS's? Why not set up a NMEA 2000 network and get an external GPS puck like the LGC-4000 which updates GPS data 5 times per second rather than the 1 time per second on the internal HDS GPS. Or are you just talking about sharing waypoints?

The LGC-4000 cost an extra $250, not everyone wants to spend that extra money, and they certainly don't have to with the built in puck that the HDS units have.

From what I can tell, he's just wanting the ability to share waypoints and other gps data. The Ethernet cable is all he needs in order to do that.

Yep, mostly concerned with the ability to share GPS data.

I am fishing a lot of new water now and I like to start out trolling and marking features as I go along then go back to icons and cast them. Right now I mark them at the helm but don't have access to them from the deck when casting. Just want to close in on that issue.

I am certainly open to add whatever if it improves the system. I am just having a hard time following along with the variations of the lowrance networking as it is new to me. I am in a fairly remote area without a qualified dealer so I will be ordering and installing myself.
