Location: Burlington, WI | I've got an 18' Fisher-18 bass boat that the cable steering is extremely stiff. The cables were changed 4 years ago because of how stiff the steering was back then. The steering usually loosens up as the weather gets warmer. Is this normal for cable steering set ups? Is there somewhere to grease it? I've looked, and cannot find a grease fitting anywhere. Is there anything I can do to either prevent this or fix it without having to replace the cables again?

| I just changed mine this year. Mine did not have anyway to grease it. I did see some stuff online that some peoples have a zerk fitting right by where it connects to the motor. Further in the research some people hung it straight up and down and poured motor oil in it. To be honest I don't think its anything I would want to chance on messing up on the water at speed so I would just change it. When you replace it make sure there isn't too much of a bend anywhere because that can cause it fail sooner. |

Location: syracuse indiana | the easiest way to loosen them up is to grease them. its easy to do too just loosen the bolt off the linkage on the motor and loosten the bigger nut on the other side and slide it all out and clean it up and grease it up and slide it all back together again.. there are all kinds of vids on youtube showing how to do this...bill |
