Location: Madtown, WI | After building some bucktails last summer I'm leaning towards using keel weights rather than bell. Seems like they roll less on with the keels, especially when using silicone. Problem is, the keel weights I got last year were all on a coil and now I need them not on a coil. Anybody know where I could buy 3/4oz keel weights? Like these but don't want to pay for the chain rig.

| Get the mold from do-it and substitute wire for the bead chain.

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | Do a search for trolling sinkers. there is a keel sinker out that you maybe can modify to use over the wire shaft. Years ago there was a wrap around keel sinker out from Herters I think. It had ears on the ends that you wrapped around your line, leader or in this case wire. (wow did I just show my age!!) |

| I had the same problem this winter. I just ordered the coils with the keel weights from Moore's. Itwisted the coil on either end of the weight with two pair of pliers and then snipped it off right at the weight. Then I still had most of the coil left for tying up my tails. Might cost a couple cents extra and takes a minute to do, but it worked for me.

Location: SW MI | All I do with mine is put whatever size egg sinker I want on the shaft of the bucktail just above the back hook and flatten it down with a hammer or in a vise. It's not the most pretty thing in the world but smashing it down generally keeps it in place and is probably cheaper than buying specific keel weights. |

Location: Detroit River | If you have access to a lead melting pot you could try making your own. Get some modeling clay (Sculpey) & mold it around some wire to the shape you want, bake it, and then make a plaster mold. I'm in the process now of making my own keel weight for my bucktails.

| Bass pro sells some nice ones. up to 3 ounces, they look like little bait fish. if you need heavier i know of a couple local guys. |

| Can you give some tips on the wire you use I have the mold.Do you coat it with anything.Do you have to pull the wire right away.Does the wire fit in the mold tite.Any help would be great |
