Anyone else have issues with the drag being too light? I just bought one of these brand new (never even been spooled up) and I feel like the drag is kind of light for muskies. It's only testing at around 8 or 9 pounds.

Anyone else have similar thoughts?

a 300-size should give you around 15lbs of drag...sounds like something's not quite right. when you pull line out is it jerking or does it pull smooth/steady?

I had this problem when I first got mine. Basically I kept tightning and losening with some force and eventually got it to my liking.

a friend of mine has had the curado dsv for over two years without any problems reeling in muskies. maybe a defect in the reel?

It's super smooth at this point, but it's just not strong enough. I was wondering if it might just take some break-in time. I've heard of reels that come with too much drag washer grease, and after just a bit of the grease wears off the drag stiffens up a little. So I'm hoping I'll have a similar experience to TC24.

Did you put any backing on? If not the braid can slip on the spool feeling like the drag is weak.. Just a thought.. Mono sticks better, otherwise try some tape under the line..
I have used my 300 dsv for 2 full years without any issues except a sticky thumbar once..

The Curado 300 both the DSV and the new 300E only has 1 drag washer in the gear and 1 below , but a new reel should be over 12lbs. I know for sure that if U install a set of CARBONTEX drag washers from SMOOTH DRAGS that U will get around 15lb plus, very easy install. Was the drag lock down on this reel when you got it ??? if so and if it was sitting around for 2-3 years or more, maybe the the drag washers ( ) have taken a set ???? Also how are U test the drag ??????

Yes, I did put on backing. I made sure the mono was snug, so I don't think that's the issue.

The drag was set at about half locked when it got shipped to me which concerned me a little bit. If it was sitting that way for over a year or so I can imagine that'd be my answer. And I'm testing it with just a regular spring scale pulling slowly on the end of the line. And I looked on smoothdrags.com and they didn't have carbontex washers for the 300 size Curado... I'd like to get some if I could find some though.

I bought Carbontex drag washers for my 301 dsv about 6 months ago on E-bay. I have not installed them because my original drag still works good. I got my dsv as soon as they came out with a left handed model...2008 maybe. You should just wipe some of the grease off the drag washer. If that does not work, there are two metal drag spring washers () that might be smashed, or installed incorrectly. If you are a lock down drag guy, they (part 0015) should be replaced every now and then. This should be a pretty easy fix.
