If anyone knows anything about this reel please help me out. On the reel cleat are the numbers 730601. I got this reel from my grandfather when he passed away. How old is it? Gear ratio? Rare or common?

What you have is an Ambassador 4000, which you already probably knew! From the foot number it was madei n 1973. I'm guessing the gear ratio is about 3.8 to 1. This was a lower priced alternative to the Abu 5000 and they tried to make it a little more "modern" with the plastic side plates. I would not recomend it's use for any serious musky fishing other than to take it out every once in a while as a nice way to remember your grnadpa.
