Just to bring line in, that would be a Zebco 202

Find yourself a nice used abu 5000, 5500, or 6600 for $35-$50....should last you a long time. Easy to maintain and fix. Can't burn bucktails with them though.

Revo toro, hands down. Ebay them for ~$200. Next step down would be mainas/old trion 66's if you wanna stay around $100 and don't crush it too hard. Like yankin/rippin/twitchin and 16 hour days? go with the toros....

Heard great thing about Abu Revo Toro, can't wait to get one. However, Shimano Curado has been flawless for me.

Best reel for the dollar is IMO not the Calcutta 400B, The CNC finished frame adds 100$ to the price without adding much more than optic value compared to a Cardiff. And the best reel is always a subjective opinion, I have excellent reels with god performance and functionality/ABU/Daiwa), but lower on durability, as well as rugged reels with lower performance, but higher on durability (Shimano).

This season I will use the Okuma Akena intensively, used the 400 yesterday for the first time, and rate it high on functionality, mostly due to it's excellent handle, as well as the casting abilities.

Another vote for the Revo Toro, you get what you pay for and great deals can be found on Ebay.

Do you have problems with the reel engaging mid cast with your LJV?

I beat the snot out of a Bass Pro Pete Maina reel and it still keeps on ticking....99 bucks...hard to beat that dollar for dollar imo...
all reels break, even TE's... that said, my trinidad has held up the best with the hours put on it...imo the reason reels break is as much from the user as it is the reel being cheap...try to cut down on backlashes and I think most guys would get a lot longer life out of a reel...

I have a Tica Caiman that has had zero issues and have also had good luck with several Okuma Indurons.

My Okuma Akenas were flawless this year. I paid well under a hundred a piece from Sportsman's Guide this early Spring.

My Shimano Corvalus and Cardiff have taken extreme beatings and I have had no problem with them.
