  | Hi guys,

I'm wondering what people do for stabilizing their trolling motor in rough weather. I run a Ranger 617vs, and currently I have a rod-saver strap mounted that secures the trolling motor from accidentally deploying while driving, but I'm looking for a solution to the motor head bouncing around and hitting the boat in rough water.

I know some guys use the RAM Trolling Motor Stabilizers, and I am considering buying one, but it seems a bit excessive to me to have both that and the rod-saver strap. I guess basically what I am asking is if anyone has a good system for stabilizing the head that wouldn't require me drilling more holes in the fiberglass. I've toyed with a few ideas, but haven't come up with anything solid. I'd love to find something I could use that would allow me to keep the rod-save strap, possibly something to prop under the shaft when the strap is tightened down, but I haven't found anything that will stay there when the boat is on plane.

Thanks! |
