Posts: 131 | you need to take the 4 screws out from the bottom of the head cover and remove the top half of the cover.then disconect the red and black power wires.then remove the bolt that holds the lower half on.slide the broken collar off.slide the new collar back on.replace the lower and upper head cover peices.

Posts: 37 Location: Coal City Illinois | Thanks Rudy. Turned out to be a piece of cake. Didn't take a half hour and I learned something too!!! Don't always need to go to the dealer or mechanic when you got a board like this ! I sure do appreciate it ! Thanks Again, Dennis

Thanks for sharing this. I have a new Minn Kota Terrova and depth collar broke on 4th fishing trip out. Minn Kota has a problem with that design - stress concentration point where breakage occurs with normal use. Now I know I can replace it wiyh out a 100 mi trip to a repair shop. Thanks again.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Is the process the same for an older Maxxum? Mine is loose/bad, and when we tighten the snot out of it will stay for awhile, then the shaft starts to slide down. Also, is it normal on this motor for the prop body to turn (flop down) so easily on the shaft when you pull the motor up to stow? In other words, the minute we pull the motor out of the water, the heavy end of the prop turns downward, and we have to finagle the foot pedal to turn it horizontal to slide up on the ramp. The cable inside the head seems good and snug, and we've adjusted it both ways and the prop doesn't tighten. Will a new collar fix both problems, or are they two separate issues? Thanks
