I'm looking for a new low profile reel and I was wondering if anyone has experience with a Revo S? I musky fish around 30 days a year so I won't be beating the reel to death. Looking to spend around $100 or so. thanks!

Posts: 219 Location: Ohio | I just picked up a bass pro shop nitro reel on ebay for the purpose of throwing rattle traps and small swimbaits. Its a heavy duty low profile and I got mine for $55.00.

Ck out Bass Pro - Pro Qualifier low profile reel in comes in 5.2:1 and 4.7:1, should hold about 75 yds of 65lb braid or 95 yds of 50lb braid, retail $99.99 this reel has brass gears, the 5.2 is a great all around ratio, the 4.7 you should be able to cast up to a size 8 blade. Posts: 322 | Look at the Browning Citori 20ha It is the wide spool version and can hold 150 yards of 65lb powerpro. It sells for right at $100 at BassPro I personally own one for spring baits. It has some get up and go 6.4 to 1 which I believe translates into 28 inches per crank and has 17lbs of drag. I really enjoy mine. I have used this reel for twin fins, Depthraiders, Chatterbaits, swimmin joes, Small bucktails etc. Here are some pictures next to my 60 Winch Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

I have a Revo S, but I wouldn't recommend it for most musky lures. What lures are you planning on using specifically?

Mostly bucktails with double 8's and crankbaits up to 2 oz.

It's not too great on 8s. It can be done, but I wouldn't recommend it. Smaller, single-bladed bucktails are pretty good. It's decent for Baby Girls, which are double 6s I believe. Crankbaits are fine as long as they don't have too much pull to them. I think the Revo Winch (bass size, not Toro Winch) would be better for 8s. Out of the $100ish price range, though. I think you're going to be happy with an S as long as you only plan on throwing large bass, small musky lures.

Posts: 81 Location: Van Buren, Indiana | I bought 2 Revo STX-L Lefties from www.ffo-tackle.com last Jan. I put them on a 9' Hulbert rod, and a 9' Pro Edge with 100lb. and 80lb. Stealth, the 80 gives you more distance. I threw DC-9's, Baby Hypnotizers w/8 blades, and rattletraps in the spring. The rest of the year Shadillac's, Kick'N'Minnow's, Hellhounds, Topwaters, and 10" Kraves. I had absolutely no issues with them, but really enjoyed the smaller reel size. From what I could read in the specs it has the same components as the Toro, but with a SLIGHTLY smaller main gear and spool, if you go to a sporting goods store you can hold them side by side and see what I mean. Currently they have some Revo STX-L's for $151, and Reconditioned RevoS-L's for $76, I may pick up one of each for those prices. Check out the Pflueger Trion 56 & 66 for Dbl Tens I have used them for three season's and no issues. Good Luck!! ![]() (I forgot to add I added the Bass Pro Shops Power handle in Smoke color to these and it was an awsome match!!)
