I keep telling myself i am going to give the night gig a fair shot and maybe this year i finally will and was curious as to what baits have shinned for those night owls out there. do you simply use the same baits that you use during the day? are there any that you simply don't throw until the dark of night? are there any color patterns that seem to work better than others? any that you throw on dark nights vs. bright nights? any confidence-building suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks...

Double 10, 12, 13 bucktails. Large spinnerbaits. Topwater. Cranks. Lures that give off lots of vibration at a steady retrieval rate. My personal favorite is a Black Llungen DC-10 (will run a little deeper than most dbl 10s) slow rolled off the deep weedlines.

Depending on where you fish, if you aren't fishing at night you are missing out big. Tough lakes can sometimes be awesome when the sun is gone!

Guest pretty much said it, bucktails, spinnerbaits, topwaters and cranks. I'll also add swimbaits. For me, the bait depends on the lake, conditions, and location but most of the time its big blades, cooler water periods I start to use a lot more cranks ~ Jakes & D-Raiders to get deeper. Colors, blacks combos are consistently good but I have seen many colors work including blue, pink, purple, chart combos.... if you have a good producing bait, I'd toss it out and worry about color second or third. I worry about the vibration/sound, running depth, speed, etc. more often than color. Typically, slower is better but if slow isn't putting fish in the boat, speed up, and speed up some more. They can find baits at night, even when they are clipping along at a good pace.

there is nothing like fishing musky at night. there is lakes here in michigan i won't even bother fishing in the day time anymore but when night comes the fish just come out.
i like big single or double 10 bladed spinnerbaits at night like radd dogs, bait rigs, bou blings or blings. black baits are a must day or night and pink has been doing real good for me also.

Same baits as during the day, but I tend to throw Big Joes a lot more at night. Hardheads have also had there place at night.

Colors are same day and night.

Heli-dawgs, especially with the Bull-dozer type rig were good for me this fall.

same baits that get hit during the day will get hit at night...experiment with color..we have seen some nights where color does seem to matter, other times it's a certain vibration they want....other times it's topwaters....or cranks...anything goes at night...let the fish tell you what they want.
