Posts: 1142 Location: NorthCentral WI | After seeing the 59 x 28 that was recently caught and posted on the MH boards and the fact it was on this "Berger King Rig"... has anyone ever used a rig like this while CASTING? Or know of any similar type rigs that guys use. I am fairly new to musky fishing and have learned a ton on this site alone. But I have never seen a rig like this or heard of anyone talk of it. IMO the BK rig is a very interesting presentation and kind of opens a whole new window. I guess I don't see why it wouldn't work for casters. Location: Des Moines IA | I have never actually tried, but my guess is, it would get tangled in itself quite a bit trying to cast it. I think I will try it trolling next year if it's legal here in Iowa.

Posts: 8775 | That rig does not look cast-friendly to me. Figure 8's may be an issue as well. I'd certainly troll it if I had the opportunity.

This is a very common setup, Believers with a spoon trailer for trolling on the St. Lawrence. Very erratic action that the big girls seem to like As for casting, I don’t think no one casts this type of rig setup but I could be wrong.

Posts: 1142 Location: NorthCentral WI | The Captain of the charter boat has these videos on his site. It appears that they will hit both. Some videos it looks like it hits the spoon, other videos it is obvious that they hit the believer. The videos are really cool of this rig in action. http://www.stlawrencemuskiefishing.com/muskie-videos/

Location: Des Moines IA | "When you are trolling and bait casting, you cannot use more than two trolling spoons or artificial baits on one line." Looks like I can give this rig a run next season! Something new ............

the thing is in most place we are not allowed to use more than 3 hooks per line........

Posts: 2068 Location: Appleton,WI | just remove a hook on the believer and then your down to 3 hooks per line.

Posts: 1142 Location: NorthCentral WI | Most guys on the MH board said that the picture is incorrect anyways... that the back hook SHOULD be removed.

Location: Des Moines IA | How deep does this thing run? 200 ft of line to the boat is A LOT. Even for a Believer. It has to be well past it's maximum depth at 200 ft? Correct?

Posts: 184 | This rig has been used for decades up here in NY. I would believe that it would be almost impossible to cast as that spoon would catch in everything. One thing you have to remember is that most people either super long line these (300'-350') off the back of there boat or use them on 'riggers in the 1000 islands. The spoon on the back will make the believer not be able to get as deep but in the super clear water of the 1000 islands you need to get way off that boat to do well year after year. Other baits can be used instead of a believer but you have to experiment as the spoon limits the cranks action on most baits. Fish hit either lure equally and those guys in the islands fish different form most of us. Light lines, generally smaller lures and super long lines.

Posts: 291 Location: Minneapolis | Any trouble with the spoon foul-hooking fish when they hit the Believer? Seems like a cool rig.

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I'm pretty sure that would count as 2 lines in MN. I know you can't fish 2+ jigs on one line in MN so this would probably fall under the same restriction.
