Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Last Monday we had our South Central Area Fisheries Manager Scot Stewart on hand to tell up about the fishery here in Madison. He also gave a heads up on what will be on the ballot in April. * - 40" Statewide Size Limit * - 50" Size Limit on the following lakes: Redstone Lake in Sauk County Rice Lake in Barron County Great Lakes Spotted Brood Stock Lakes = Archibald, Elkhart, & Anderson in Oconto & Sheboygan Counties * - Require Quick Strike Rigs for live bait greater than 10" The details of the wording of the QS question has not been fully worked out. Stay tuned and I will post as soon as I find out. The Spring Hearing date is Monday April 11th, 2011. Please try to attend and we can get these passed. Edited by muskie! nut 10/14/2010 9:40 PM

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Its just about a month away. Its very important that you make the time to attend. Drop everything and attend. If the 40 inch size limit fails, it will be a long time before the DNR peruses this issue again. I remember when they asked for a 36 inch size limit, it failed and we never got that, just a 2 inch increase about 5 years after that. Here is a link to the issues http://dnr.wi.gov/fish/regulations/springhearings.html And a link to the meeting sites http://dnr.wi.gov/org/nrboard/congress/spring_hearings/2011/2011Loc...

Posts: 999 | The broodstock lakes were supposed to automatically go to 50" one year after they were stocked according to David Rowe so im not sure why these are even up for vote?

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | That 1st post was in October. Some things changed since then. I did not want to start a new thread, just extend an old one.

Posts: 1148 | Thanks for posting all the information muskie nut. I've never been to one of these meetings and since I've found such a passion for musky fishing, I will definitely be attending to do my part in getting this passed. I believe this is very important for the future of our lakes; especially a couple of the small lakes around me that are holding lots of 36-42" fish where I once witnessed a bass fishermen keeping a mid 30" ski. I would rather see a 45 or 48" limit but hey, it's the right idea anyways. I'm sure there are others like me too, that may not have really searched out the spring meeting locations in your area. I would like to believe there will be over 90% involvement from WI users of this site. Use the links provided and be there!!!
