well i dont think your going to find 14-18 inch suckers in madison right now. dorns has suckers but the biggest you will get will be 12-13 inchers and smaller ones too. they open at 8 though.

You won't find the 14 - 18 at Dorn's but the last 2 times I was in there they had a couple at 24+.

We have the Ironman on the Madison Chain this weekend and I know they are trying to get some bigger suckers. I spoke with them yesterday and they said they are trying to get the biggest ones they can.
FYI they will be getting some more in before the weekend because of our tournament this weekend so they may have some bigger ones then.
Good Luck!

Eric have you been having luck on the bigger ones, I only ask because the only action I have had on suckers out in the boat on Monona have been the ones under 10".

lived in madison 3 yrs ago- times change, and the fishery changes..... certin spots I like larger ones, waubesa for one-, but monona I do like smaller ones. but I guess I like to think bigger fish will eat larger ones- or bigger dissapointment and a bigger toll on the pocketbook, big- rock piles on waubesa, and the same for monona........ but thats just me ive only fished the chain a handful of times this year- I live near better waters now, and lots, lots, lots less pressure......

There's a few places around Stoughton that will special order them if you call several days in advance. Lunatics in town and the Mobil station between Stoughton and McFarland. I called them Sunday afternoon and they had a couple of nice 12-14 inchers waiting for me on Monday afternoon. You can also try the BP in McFarland. Again, I would call first a couple of days prior and be specific on the size you want.

I was in Dorn's yesterday and I was told they don't open until 8 on weekends and have no intention of opening early on Saturday and Sunday due to most of the guys that work there will probably be fishing the tournaments. I'll have to think they will be getting the pick of the litter when the sucker man shows up on Friday.

Of course, things could change.

Too bad some enterprising individual doesn't just show up at the landing with a tank and sell them.

I am not sure how the suckers that Dorns will get in will be as far as the size. But I did talk with Dick Smiths today and they said the ones that they just got in were much bigger this time. I hope Dorns can get some bigger ones also.

As far as picking a sucker I like to mix up the size anyway some big some small. I cant say that any one size does better for me anyway. Every day is different and fishing 4-5 days a week they all seem to get eaten anyway.

Also with the tournament this weekend Dorns is open till 8pm on Friday and till 5 on Saturday. So if you are fishing the Ironman I would pick my suckers up the night before.
