| I'm pretty new to this whole Muskie fishing thing... I've spent a total of 2 hours or so with a 45"-47" under my belt... I AM HOOKED.
Going up to Vermilion this weekend... The plan is to hook into 3-4 walleyes for a nice supper and then spend the rest of the time Muskie hunting.
I'm very knowledgable on the Tower end of the lake and fairly confident on picking up a couple walleyes...but in regards to Muskie...not so much obviously.
I know what to do if we catch one and how to handle the fish for a good clean catch and release, and I've been giving a little advice on lure and tactic choices for this time of year.
I'm being told to look for reefs near died off weed beds and for the steep drop offs...
Anybody willing to offer suggestions on tactic/lure/locations?
What about time of day?

| I suppose I should mention we are staying in the Oak Narrows area of the lake...

| Lots of good water in that area, van riper weedline, the buoys on the right side going into wolf bay, Frazier bay reefs, fectos point, wakemup narrows by muskego resort, merry go round reef, birch narrows by retreat lodge, northeast end of gold island and adjacent structure. Bulldawgs and blades, not much topwater, crankbaits 7-10" casting... time of day doesnt matter as much this time of year, always better when the winds blowing... big glide baits are also a favorite... hope you do well |

| I heard the weather conditions have made for some TOUGH fishing. I would consider working any weeds that are left right now----if that doesn't produce, try trolling minnowbaits on the primary breaklines---cover as much water as you can until you locate some active muskies---then pick those areas apart with some finesse presentations. A couple more weeks and the trolling bite will kick in--BIG TIME---it's just not cold enough yet---but that time's a comin'. Good Luck----Jobu |

I fished this body of water once in 1982. I am going back this year in Sept. you have a place you recommend to stay? I like to musky fish/walleye/panfish.
I heard good things about the merry go round reef.

Want to go up to vermillion lake in Sept. I like walley fishing and musky fishing. If you had your choice as to where to stay, where would you stay and why? You commented on a post from a guy who was going to be staying near oak narrows. Is there a resort near there that's good?

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Jerry - go to the M1st Outing on Spring Bay in August if you can. Good time to learn alot about the lake really quick. Nice place and great prices, too
