Posts: 256 | I'm heading up to Rainy Lake here in September and wondering if its worth checking out Indian Bay at the north end of Red Guy Bay for muskies? I've gone up the last two years and finding muskies has been tough with only one 30 incher in the boat and a few others seen. The pike action has been fantastic so I'm not complaning but would like to see a few more muskies. Otherwise, rather than fishing Red Guy Bay (we stay in Bear Pass) would we be better off running to Seine Bay and the Little Grassy Lake/Grassy Lake area? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Posts: 32959 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I fished red Gut for a few years, and did OK. decent numbers, good quality, but small bite windows. never tried tham after dark. I really liked Bleak Bay, but very few Muskies there for me, anyway.

Posts: 256 | Thanks for the info. I've looked at fishing Bleak Bay but as you said there is a small number of fish in that area. How was the pike bite in Bleak Bay?

Posts: 162 Location: Chicago, IL | Fished Red Gut Bay for one day a few years back. Two boats pursuing muskies. I caught the only ski @ about 35" and nobody saw any other fish. However, it is a beautiful section of the lake and I've heard of some folks having good success there.

Posts: 131 | i fished red gut and the bays north east of there 2 years in a row,2006 and 2007. actually only boated one fish, a fat 46 incher.saw a few up there but not enuf to get me back there although i suspect there is an oinker somewhere in that part of the lake.caught plenty of nice pike plus it's a great place to be, absolutely beautiful country.[we hammered the walleyes!]never fished the far east end but have heard there is a fishable population.stayed at the fisheries resort[bear pass narrows] which is a perfect location to access the north and south bays plus it is out of the weather and frank is a great guy but WILL drink your beer.

Posts: 256 | We fished up there this weekend. The weather and wind that moved in on Friday made getting out of Bear's Pass tough. We fished in there all day and put a few nice northerns in the boat but no muskies. We stayed at The Fisheries and I didn't expect to catch a muskie in Bear's Pass as from what I've been told are not normally in there in great numbers. Saturday the wind let down a bit and we ran up to the Cliff Narrows/Crooked Narrows area and moved one low 40's muskie before the clouds moved out. Once the clouds moved out all of the fish stopped biting until sundown but by than we were back in the Bear's Pass area.
