Hey Guys , I'm heading to Red Lake next week , staying at Bow Narrows .. I've heard conflicting reports about 'skis being in these waters. many people have said don't waste your time chasing em and spend the time walleye and northern fishing. Any thoughts ,tips or reports on muskie in these waters ?? Thanks in advance Guys ~~tight lines

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | I think it's kinda similar to a Rainy Lake situation, there's not many in there but there are a few nice fish caught from time to time. As far as targeting them....ehh, that would be very tough from what I remember. I would just stick to the eyes and pike, and it used to be one hell of a trout fishery although I have been told that good trout fishing is no longer like it used to be....

Posts: 78 | Our good family friends use to own a camp on Red Lake, in which we went up to every year for 15 years until they sold it to some friends a few years back.. Not really worth wasting your time targeting muskies.. In the 20 some years that they owned the camp maybe around a dozen fish were caught? You would prob have more fun throwing dawgs for big pike in the lake as there are a lot of large northern in there. I believe our friends old camp had a lot of pike over 45 and the biggest was 48 last year.

Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | Ranger has been very good after that little rough start last year, the Yamaha runs like a champ and I couldn't be happier. Didn't recognize the familiar initials in your name, have a great trip to Canada Tony and I'll see ya around locally this fall

Posts: 78 | I will say this, i forgot to mention it the other day.. There is a great muskie lake north of town down a dirt road, My friends use to own Black Bear Lodge. If you look it up on the map, there is a lake near red lake Called Flat Lake. Back then the locals mainly fished it, and there use to be a fence blocking the launch area to the lake, but since our friends had portage there we could fish it. Not sure if the fence is still there or not, but it is a great muskie lake with hardly any pressure and a lot of big fish. Also has a river that runs to another lake that is loaded with muskies, but usually blocked by beaver dams
