| I have a CV-Z I got over the Winter and I am just not very happy with how it casts. I have tried using fireline (30lb), Power Pro (50lb) and Tuffline Plus (50lb) and I don't think any of them cast well with this reel.
I think the biggest problem is the line guide does not traverse. I like the low profile and the feel of the reel on the rod, but cant seem to get the distance out of it. I also seem to have more trouble with backlash with this reel. Again, I attribute this to the line guide not traversing.
Compared to my Abu C4's, there is no comparison... I am thinking seriously about ridding the thing on E-bay. Any thoughts or comments before the auction? Is there another line I should try?

| I have 4 of the CVX's which is one step down and they are quite fine for me. I get plenty of distance and low down time due to backlashing.

| I believe you have the CV-Z253 not the CV-Z300A. The 300 is what you want for muskie fishing due to its capacity and that its line guide moves when you cast allowing you a long, smooth cast. The 253 is NOT designed for muskies and the line guide does not move so your cast is rough and short.

| Brett, you are correct I have the 253 in the left hand wind. If Daiwa ofered the 300 in a left hand model, I would have bought it. I think the drag system is capable in that reel, but the fact that the line guide doesn't traverse is what is killing me with the heavier line. I have caught a few fish on this reel and like I say the drag works fine.
Bottom line is there aren't many choices in left hand wind reels. Without spending 300+ on the Shimano TE reels, I think the Abu's are hard to beat. |

| I have a couple of CVZ-253's, I love them. They cast better than any of my Abu's. (Of course, you'd expect that, they cost twice as much). I have one spooled with 50# and the other with 65# Whiplash. I don't find any issue with line capacity, 65# is .015" in dia., the same as 14# Trilene XT.I get about 150 yds of braid on them with about 50 yds. of mono backing. The drags are very smooth too. |
