Location: APPLETON, WI | ...anyone throw a Weagle or other WTD-type surface bait during mid-summer like this with high 70-degree surface water temps? An individual that I fished with this season from another forum indicated to me during an outing that he only throws "straight-retrieve and/or prop style" topwater baits during the peak summer months. He doesn't use WTD-style baits except during Spring / Fall...
Anyone else have this thought process...? Or is there any truth to this?
Or are they way off base...?
I believe this method of thinking was that the warmer water temps and higher metabolism of the 'skis mean they want something moving a bit faster and not so lazy / lethargic like that of a WTD-type bait.
Thoughts?

| I think maybe in general faster moving baits might be more effective during mid summer. But you have to remember that the fish don't read the book that we write. There are so many different variables and every fish will have a different mindset. The only way to find out on a given day is experiment and try different things.

Location: Racine, Wi | I typically don't throw them as much during the mid summer, unless I'm going back on a big fish that is set up on a shallower spot, or that I think I can get to commit to something on the surface. It's not that they won't eat them, but I'm targeting a different group of fish this time of year (deeper water and deeper structure), so it doesn't fit what I'm throwing at.
April, May, June, late August - November, they're getting wet all the time. |

Location: central illinois | My experience with WTD topwaters specifically the Weagle has not been as good in the summer in Illinois. But early spring and early fall especially when water temps are 55-70 degrees these lures are one of my top choices! |

| The only way muskies would hit our topwater in canada a few wks ago was if we worked our weagles super slow.. Temps were easily in the 70's, pro style caught nothing.. |

Location: In a shack in the woods | I've been seeing a few fish on them. nothing is too excited about eating it though except for the little 35" that did a summersault over the bait last week. I think he was too excited and completely missed.lol |

last week water was at 81 and a 51 have choose to hit a satisfer. |
