Posts: 2361 | I imagine I am not the only one with this particular problem. I am out looking at new rods, and reels and meantime, while checking my equipment, I dug a bunch of stuff out(still missing 2-3 casting reels, but I found 34 to start with) and realize this thing has gone further than I thought, since many of these reels actually work to some extent, and the thing that really got me is the spinning reels. WTH??? I have 20 spinning reels, 2 only missing a part, with 1 broken and one needing the reel handle straightened. Basically when I reduce it to a ratio type of thing, I find I have 2 big spinning rods and reels, and 4 unusable at this time but easily repairable, and 14 perfectly usable light to medium spinning reels, including an ultralight, for 7 light to medium spinning rods. And two of those reels have NEVER BEEN USED. I came to find all this crap because I was looking for this nifty Daiwa Gold two piece medium rod I just bought a couple weeks ago (what a bargain $10), and when looking for a reel to put on it, I find I have a choice of 8, because one of the 7 rods has a busted tip. How does one get to this position? Kind of amazing because I just gave away two spinning rods last winter to a kid, and thought at that time, I have more than enough for all I do or would do, which is mainly a little panfishing up north once a year, and truck trout down here a few times a year. I am not really sure why I have the big spinning rigs, though I got one to try and tailwater striper fish and then found it was still a little shy going for the distance I needed. I am pretty sure all this stuff was a bargain, or needed at the time. I have kept my casting rods in repair, replacing guides, cork, whatever when needed. The spinning side of the equation actually has me in a sweat. I guess I just hate to pass up a good deal. Is it time for a sale? Or do I just need to start buying more spinning rods?? ![]() Luckily or unluckily for me, I fish with a guy that has even a bigger closet full than I do, so I have been able to look at him and somewhat justify how out of control this is. The casting thing is pretty well justified since I have bought most of these new and beat them up casting over the years going back to the 70's, but the spinning thing?? It worries me! Posts: 2361 | muskie! nut - 7/20/2010 2:48 PM firstsixfeet, I'm trying to figure out, are you bragging or complaining? :) Neither one.........it is more like I am scratching my head and wondering how I accumulated all this stuff? And I feel like if I get rid of it, I will suffer some major loss, and yet, most of this junk sits in a box all year. I should probably start buying in the fall and selling in the spring for 1/2 price or so, then going on to the next fall and buying new again.

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | If you are worried about feeling left out because you departed with many items you are not using how about this thought. You could donate items that you are not using to kids programs, resorts (to have for kids to use) our check with the boys and girls clus, big brother/ big sisters. It might give the opprotunity for someone who hasn't or doesn't get a chance to go fishing have something to use. Plus it can make you feel good for donating, selling, giving it to a good cause. While I just thought of that i guess it is time to go through my stuff also. I agree with Slammr that if i hadn't used it or plan to use it. It is time to go. It does help keep things in check. With all the bait that we all own how many get the call on a regular basis and how many sit idle in the box or still in the new package yet?

I would say you have a little bit of a problem. Figure out a way to sell some at a garage sale and refrain from buying anymore. I'm doing the same thing at the moment. As I upgrade to better quality and more expensive rods and reels, the old stuff has got to go. My wife likes it when I can get rid of any of my fishing stuff and then she doesn't say a word when I buy some new stuff. Just a suggestion. James
