Posts: 283 | Has anyone used one? I'm more interested in using one for early season bow hunting? Do they seem to keep away all kinds of bugs? What about the scent? I see there is an Earth scented one. I'd rather get eaten by bugs than get winded by a deer. The refils are suppose to last 12hrs, but if u only use them 2-3hrs can u reuse them? How long does the butane cartridges last.

Posts: 1270 | I have used one and I love it! I do not use it for bowhunting because it does give off a smell. I've had people say that it doesn't bother deer but I'm not sure about that one. I do know that I will not go turkey hunting without one. As far as I have observed it pretty much only works on skeeter. Get one - you will not be disapointed!

Posts: 642 Location: Richfield, MN | I never go into the woods during ear;ly season bow hunting. They actually work and I would never be in the woods without it. Worth every penny. After running it for a while you can actually see the bugs flying around just on the edge of the area it protects. Kinda cool. Sure there are a few die hard bugs that slip through but once you use one you will never go out again without it. For fishing I just tried the clip ons and was surprised that they actually work as well for fishing. Not so sure about hunting though as I do get a little ordor off the clip ons but for fishing these are pretty good IMO. Good luck to you this bow season/

Posts: 476 Location: WI | They now have an earth scent refill that you can buy. I use mine on our patio and it works great. Bought one before we went up to Canada this spring and the noseums and black flies were all over us in the cleaning house. We turned it on and literally all of the bugs were against the screen trying to get out. Worth every penny. I haven't decided how well it works on a boat yet, if it is windy you won't have much luck. Refills for me have worked probably around 4 hours. Dan O

Posts: 431 | this is interesting. whats the real world run time on these? how much heat is generated-is it safe to lay on the boat carpet. i personally dislike most repellants, so maybe i'll give this a try.

Posts: 133 | I too will not go out in the woods without mine. Although, I have not used it for early deer, I will use it for bear early in September. I just hope it doesn't cost me an opportunity. It does smell abit, once in awhile you get a wiff. Worth every penny, I only get 3-4 hours on a pad and two pads per fuel cell.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Itried it a couple years ago and didn't think it worked then. But the skeeters were pretty ferocious Fri night with no wind so I gave it another shot. At first I put it on the pedestal seat which I estimate was about 4 feet from my head. They swarmed me. I then put it in my left chest pocket and it seemed to help, though after awhile it got a little warm and I had to remove it. By then they weren't as bad and I could handle them. So I'm not convinced they work very well unless it's awfully close to your head/upper body.

Posts: 202 Location: Rhinelander | they work, you can unscrew the butane when not in use so it doesn't go to waste

Posts: 1270 | I don't think they get hot enough to worry about on a boat carpet. FYI I figured out once that they cost about $2.00 per hour to run which IMO is well worth it not to have skeeters bothering me.

Posts: 285 Location: Price County WI | They make a holster thats made to strap on to trees for deer hunting, It works great on boat seat pedestals. I have one on the front and back deck. They work great in the boat as long as there is little to no wind.

Posts: 462 Location: Antioch, IL | First one I had worked great. My Dad was so impressed with it I gave it to him. The second one I had overheated and melted to my pedestal seat and got gooey plastic all over my hand (that sucked). My Dad still uses his, I have not replaced mine.

Posts: 272 Location: Oregon, WI | They work like a champ. Also, if they still offer it, get the scent attachment. During the rut put some "love juice" on felt pad and place it a short distance upwind of your stand. Nothing like a "warm" one to bring in the big boys.
