Posts: 1030 Location: APPLETON, WI | I want to get the guy whose taken me out musky fishing several times this season thus far a new trolling lure to add to his arsenal. We'll often troll from one spot to another or make a few large passes during the day and I want to get him a big (10"+) trolling bait that has the ability to stay shallow 2'-6'. Granted, I know and realize this largely depends upon trolling speed. But I don't want a deep diver at all... Does such a bait exist? The only one that came to mind off the top of my head is the Drifter Super Believer but I believe this lure gets down fairly deep...? Suggestions?

Posts: 463 Location: Sw Pennsylvania | The bigfoot shallowraiders come to mind if you can still find them, storms giant thunderstick madflash 10", and the shallow invaders, but they are only 9" . If not just keep the lines tight to the boat and the rod tips high. Edited by allegheny river kid 7/17/2010 8:16 PM

Posts: 295 Location: Southern Ontario, Detroit River and Lake StClair | A 10" Muskie Stalker runs fairly shallow and is a deadly bait. Rember though alot of the depth a bait runs depends on line out. I short line troll 10" Hookers at depths less than 6' feet and that bait will go down 20ft+ if I let it. Tim

I've seen the 4.5" and 6.5" models before but was unaware they produced a 9" model. I think I may end up going with one of those. Thanks for the suggestion!

ACE Baits does a big 12"'ish Creek Chub Pikie type bait, straight or jointed, run down a max of 5'. Also 10" ACE Super Magnum Minnow, floating, run down to a max of around 10' with 100' of line at 4mph so can be run sub-surface depending on speed etc.

Other options might be a Sledge, a large spinner bait (some do exceed 10 inches), and up here in Ontario we are also starting to troll double cowgirls. Bill

Posts: 8 | You should try a 7" Tomic, not 10", but still a really good bait, that handles different speed very well! Add a tail on the last hook on the "multi" modell for a bigger bait. Many big jerkbaits stay shallow and perform well aswell.

Try the 9 inch shallow czar by Tyrant Tackle, it works very well trolling on the shallow flats on the bay of Green Bay. www.tyranttackleinc.com
