Posts: 642 Location: Richfield, MN | I am looking for a Salist 30. If you have one that you are interested in selling let me know what you have. Would like to see pics along with condition age how much abuse it has had but most importantly the CHEAP price you are willing sell it to me. I am still in the process of building up a supply of baits as well as a couple rod and reels. Missourimuckyhunter has been a huge help in getting me setup with some awesome baits!!! Let me know about the reel. Might be interested in a different reel as well. But it needs to be able to handle Double Cowboys and pounders and heavier!!! Thanks Mike Also I live in MN in the Minneapolis area so if something local I could make arrangements to pick up to save on shipping costs!!! Edited by Muddy41 7/13/2010 6:34 PM

Location: Twin Cities | I've got a brand new Saltist 40 LW that i'm looking to unload. Never been on a rod, spooled about 2/3's full with cortland masterbraid, 80lb. PM me and we can see if prices line up.

Posts: 120 Location: Baltimore, MD | If you are throwing double 10's and larger baits with a Saltist 30, you are going to get worn out if you are casting for an extended period of time. The reel is definitely built well, but the 6.1:1 gear ratio is not meant to be used with drag-inducing lures like cowgirls and it weighs 20oz. I would recommend going with the Revo Toro 60 Winch which has a gear ratio of 4.6:1, a lower profile and weighs almost half as much as the Saltist.

I'd guess not...i've been using saltist 20's and 40's for two seasons now, they work great, friends have the 30 and they work great as well. You can't do the same thing with a revo toro 60 that you can do with a saltwater reel, not the same purpose at all.

Posts: 120 Location: Baltimore, MD | Actually, I owned a Saltist 30 for quite some time. I'm not arguing that they do not work great...they are built like a tank and work extremely well with burning smaller bladed bucktails along with some jerkbaits and topwaters. All I am saying is that, for a beginner, your wrist will become less fatigued if you are burning double 10's while being able to palm the reel with a Toro Winch. As far as a perspective on performance, the Toro has the same size gears (38mm) as a Calcutta TE which means similar power.

Posts: 717 Location: Grand Rapids, MI | I have a Saltist 40. I think the hardest part about burning in a double 10 is holding your rod back from being sucked into the water!! My cranking hand doesn't do any work anymore. This is THE reel for big double-bladed baits.
