Posts: 1188 Location: Iowa | So my dad and I booked a week long stay with Nielsen's Fly-In Lodge on Rowan Lake, ON during the third week of August. Beings as how niether of us have ever been there we don't really know where to start as far as bait selection to bring goes. Since it is a fly-in type deal we are trying to limit our tackle to 1 lakewood monster between the 2 of us. I have been paying attention to the lodges online fishing report forum and so far they are saying showgirls, gliders, cowgirls and a stump hawg. For those that have ever fished the lake what would you recommend as far as baits and/or colors. We will definetly include the main stays that should be included in most every muskie box but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt Percival

Matt, I've been going up to Nielsen's on Rowan Lake for the past 16 years and you will be going at a great time in August. Make sure to include some top water baits, Bulldawgs, Suicks, Top Raiders and Depth Raiders in your box. I'd also bring various types / sizes of bucktails. Maribou and tinsel tails have worked well and back/orange w/ silver blades, yellow to neutral colors are best. Don sells the original Stump Hawgs in camp if you can't find them anywhere else. Maybe we'll see you in camp as our trips might overlap! Good Luck...Rowan holds some monsters.... Mitch

Posts: 8 Location: Eagle River WI | Try over sized baits like bulldogs and reef hawgs. I found that anything in a pike pattern works great. Every northern we caught was either chewed up or got hit on the way in. The inlet to the north east bay and the bay itself holds some nice fish. Good Luck you'll love the place.

You dont need alot of baits. Spinnerbaits/bucktails: Buy 2 stump hawgs at camp, 1 red 1 yellow. A couple of cowgirls/showgirls and a few of your favorite bucktails. Surfacebaits: doc and a top raider or another propbait. Gliders: Manta/hughs river etc.... Crankbaits: ciscoe kid,depthraider,grandma/slammer baits plastics: Bulldawgs/live action lures There are others but thats a good start. Call the lodge and ask for don or paul for more details.

Posts: 1188 Location: Iowa | One more quick question...in trying to cover the selection of lures that both my dad and I want to bring based on what we have been told is most productive, we are having trouble fitting it into a lakewood monster...my question is how much do we need to limit it to...if we had a lakewood monster and a lakewood medium, would that exceed flight weight limits on the float plane that takes you to the lodge...on past trips we have been limited in wieght and I assuming the same is true for a fly-in like this as well...any input would be greatly appreciated... Thanks again, Matt Percival

I believe you are limited to 80lbs Per Person. Check on Nielsens website. If your overweight, check w/the lodge if any other planes are due in that day or the next. Just an option...have a great trip!
