Trying to decide between these reels for a jerkbait setup and I throw mostly hellhounds on a 8' MI rod. My buddy has a Curado and I like it but I also like the Toro (I have a lower ratio Toro). So does anyone have a Toro 51HS reel? Is a 51HS too small? Love Shimano so this is a tough call. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I cannot speak about the Toro but I love my 301E. It's a great reel.

Two words, try both out at the store and decide which feels better to you.

OK, that's more than two words.

Owned a LH Curado in the past and liked it but sold it to help pay for the recent purchase of my Revo TORO Winch. The Abu is a way nicer, smoother, and better feeling reel than the Shimano. Remember, try them both and buy what works for you, compare the gear ratios, line capacities and max drag too before you make a decision.

You cannot compare a Curado to a Winch! The reels are meant for different applications (one is a race car the other is a 4x4). I like the Toro series and own all 3 toros and also own every Musky Shimano product. My OPINION is not biased and i choose to use the Curado on my jerk rod. The winch on the other hand is incredible.

Get the one that says Shimano on the side.

The Curado is a great reel, there is no argueing that fact, but when it comes to the 300 size I think they really screwed up by not putting a synchronized level wind on it. IMHO this is a huge feature when it comes to a wider reel, for bass reels it's not important in the least but on these wider reels it is. The Curado has about 19lbs. of drag and the Toro has about 24lbs. of drag so both have more than enough for musky fishing. One nice thing about the Toro is that it comes with both a double handle and a single, power, handle. The Toro also has a promotion that you can get a $120 pair of Wiley X glasses when you buy one.
