Location: Grand Rapids MN | I've found a few options for repowering my boat but wanted to hear some input before making a decision. I'm looking at either a new 115 Optimax or the EFI 4-stroke. From internet searches I've seen that the 115 Opti's may have a coil issue that is pretty common. I haven't seen anything bad about the 4-stroke so far but I've heard they are a dog as far as performance. I'm putting it on a 17.5' Tracker Targa WT that is usually loaded with gear and people. I currently have a Merc 75 2-stroke so I'm really hoping to see some good performance improvements. Wish I could afford to max it out with a 150hp but I see a lot of people running 115's so they must be happy with them.
So I would like to hear any stories, experiences, etc with these motors on performance, reliability, and quietness. Suggestions are welcomed and appreciated, thanks. |

Can you wait a year and get the 150? You would not regret it especially if your fishing big water. I have two buddies who have 115's on similar boats, the only thing they beee-ach about is they want more horsies. I do believe the top end will be the same on the motors, just that it will take you a little longer to get there with the 4 stroke. I have NEVER heard anyone complain about too many horsies or maxing it out.
