Subject: HELP.. St croix river advice

I live in Michigan (not too far from Lake St Clair, heh heh). I'm getting married this July in the Twin cities. I have a cabin rented that is on the St Croix river. It is near the town of Scandia, a little NE of Minneapolis/St Paul. I'm not sure about the possibility of a boat yet but have my hopes. You can only chase each other around the bedroom so much each day on your honeymoon, right? A guy NEEDS to fish, right?

Any Esox in the river? Smallmouth? Walleye? How about deep holes with big cats?
Any thoughts, tips, marital advice, etc would be appriciated.
Thanks in advance!

IF you decide to fish on your honeymoon your wife will hold it against you forever. That shouldn't stop you, but if you catch a big fish don't tell everyone it was the highlight of your trip.

Cross lake is a stocked musky lake not really all that far from scandia its actually formed by the snake river,,,which might be a spot to hit in theory since some muskies might enter the croix from the snake,,,,cancel till sept!!!! Scandia area has good grouse hunting if you can stand the ticks!!!

I posted a similar question recently (search my posts). I was told yes the Croix holds fish, stay north of Stillwater unless you want to deal with heavy Yacht traffic.

Ha, thanks hooker. Can't cancel. That would get me in more heat than fishing on my honeymoon. I talk about fishing a lot to her and let her know about every trip I go on so she is getting used to the idea that I'll still do my share of fishing. Don't get me wrong, she is great and I do love fishing. I would give up fishing to be married to her but hope for the best of both worlds. Kinda like having my cake and eating it too. I'm not talking about half or full days away from her, just hoping it is worth dragging my St Croix to the St Croix.

I suggest hiring a guide for the river. There are muskies in there, but it is even more difficult to stumble upon them there than in a lake. Make sure you and your bride stroll along the waterfront in Stillwater while you're in the area. That is always a nice time. That water is amazing for the amount of bass caught that look like they've been put through a paper shredder because of muskie bites.

Don't ever ever tell her that. Meaning the part about giving up fishing to be married to her. If she gets that one up on you, it's over. Just keep this in mind. I have a theory, a very sound theory that has yet to be disproven. It simply states that they are all crazy and that there are just varying degrees of the craziness. It's solid and has never been disproven!! Good luck on the marriage. It's a lot of work and you'll get out of it what you put into it.

oooh, ha ha, no way triton. She would never know that. she already knows I'll be up in a tree a lot with my bow as well come October also. I'll agree with your crazy theory and add that us men (me at least) are a little crazy too. We just have to figure out a happy medium to keep everything on keel smooth.
To the others, forgot who mentioned 'you get out what you put in', thanks. I was married in the past and do miss it. I look foreward to it again. There is plenty that can be done with and for your wife that cements the relationship in a way where they are also happy when you are happy and then you don't have a problem with fishing time.

She has never had the chance to do any fishing but is open to it and wants to try. After she battles her first Salmon or Musky, I'm betting she will at least understand and hopefully be hooked.

I have plenty of time to drop some hints (and test the water) that a few rods will be with us towards the end of July.
