Posts: 909 | I never hear anyone talk much about the Hughes River Top Prey! Does Anyone have any input on these Big $ WTD lures? Brian

Posts: 2089 | They are my "go to" head bobber. Different from the Weagles and other sloshers. I can work it fast or slow and get a nice "ker plunk" when I hit it on a slow retrieve. 3 hooks too, which I like. I've picked up one here and one there, but will not pay $70 for a simple bait like that. Lots of good options at a fraction of the cost.

Posts: 1030 Location: APPLETON, WI | ugh. I'd love to own one and see what it's all about... I've not seen one of these lures or the action in person. I do love their paint finishes. But there's no way I can justify the cost.

Posts: 462 Location: Syracuse, Indiana | I own a few Top Preys. They are my favorite WTD top water bait, but agree that $70 is way too much. In my experience, the baits lack consistency, meaning each is unique in action and how it can be used. My best Top Preys make a great wooosh sound - I just had Don Slagle repair the coating on one of them - and can be worked fast, slow, or in between. There was also a 2 hook version, but my 2-hooker works like a jackpot - good at finding fish but too light to be good at sticking them. My $0.02.

I own both 7 and 10 inch versions. I like the 7" in low light because it is a less wide path it travels. The 10" i prefer in daylight with a little bit of chop and overcast clouds. Works as a great search bait. And when that wake appears, slow down a bit before increasing the speed. Caught my biggest 47" on it last year in Canada. On the 7" i caught very nice northerns in Holland and an herring (big bird)
