| Go with .051. - .062 is stronger and less likely to bend, but deadens the vibration. If making for yourself, you may even want to go a little thinner to increase the vibration. I know a few guys that do - but be prepared to replace the shaft more often as it get bent up. Their reasoning is to increase vibration, but doing yourself is very cheap to re-do. Just my 2 cents. |

| .051 works good, I also use .043 it allows more vibration and is very cheap too. |

Location: Land of the Musky | 062 for everything as long as you can get good spin. JMO but it is a much better wire and you can fix it out on the water much easier after netting a fish. |

Location: The Yahara Chain | I would recommend .051 for most applications. When you pair .062 with the .025 blades (10's) you will find that a lot of the baits will roll.
If you use the .040 blades (10's) you will definitely want to use the .062. The blades are too heavy for the thinner wire plus you won't have the rolling issues with the thicker blades.....they don't spin as fast as the .025. The .025 blades will give you superior lift and more vibration. |

Location: Land of the Musky | Bytor has a good point. I should have had this in my above post: key for the larger dia wires to is to use the correct clevis or you will get rolling in the bucktails. Make sure your internal clevis hole diameter is about 20% larger than the wire you are using. Otherwise you will get hang up on the clevis and wire. Very expensive lesson I learned years ago.... |

Location: The Yahara Chain | James I use the large clevises on all of my 10's. When using the thinner blades I would recommend the .051 wire. It drives me crazy when the bait rolls.
As stated above the only time I prefer the thicker wire is with the thicker blades.
I could get into the whole thick blade vs. thin blades but I won't...other than to say that they are two completely different tools. |

The wire also transfers vibration though, if you read Don Schwartz article about bucktails he mentions blade size and wire size.

Throw a cowgirl with thinner wire a grim reaper spinnerbait or a rizzo whizz - one thing in common light wires, the only one you have to worry about is the grim reaper spinnerbaits they break after awhile. Muskies that eat tell it all. |

| dont have to read any blades scientist articles.imo all the wire vibration is canceled by the blades vibration.
what you feel on the rod tips and what happen behind the blades is 2 different thing.
to make a short story eagletails!!!!
lots of guys will tell lots of bs because they dont like to twist heavy wire hahahahha
