Does anyone have a report for up there heading up this weekend. Was wondering if there was any hot action?

HI WI Muskie,

While I am not sure if I am the best person to ask, I was up on the Big Chip for vacation all of last week.

I got out for a couple hours each day on my family vacation, and I found the fish to be rather tight lipped. I am not sure if the crappy barometer reading I got all week was the reason, but I thought with the storms going through every other day, and some nice clouds at times, I would at least see a fish or two.

I was reading water temp's from 76 - 79 for most spots on the flowage, and worked weed patches wherever I could find them and a number of different bars and islands. I stuck mainly with a bucktail and topwater.

I hope this helps. If you have any specific questions, please let me know.

Pal

I’m not the best person to ask either. Just came back from a long weekend on the Chip. Big zipoloa. I saw three fish and missed a dink. The only action was with my wife and son getting a few northerns on the weed edges. They were using live bait – small suckers. I fished like Pal and also fished some of the deeper cribs. I didn’t get to do any night fishing (too sore from tubing and rope swinging) and that probably would’ve been the ticket. I believe we saw the first few days of the cooling trend and the action should get better soon. Great sleeping weather up there ha-ha

While I was up there I stopped in at pastika's and they said the were starting to get a hot topwater bite about an hour or so before dark. They were talking mainly about the chip. But sand was also mentioned. went to the spyder lake chain on sat. and moved a couple of fish on an amma bamma, and caught a bass on a top raider. fished day lake on sunday and I was not impressed. I hope this helps a little.

Fishing is pretty hot right now, many big fish showing up on the charts. Saw one very happy angler out to dinner with a pocket full of polaroids, a 48.5” and a 46” in the past couple of days. We saw a half dozen fish over the windy weekend. My uncle boated a very nicely marked 38” hybrid and I lost a musky about the same size. The fish’s nose was right on the tail of my surface bait for the last 10 feet of the cast. It hit on the first 90-degree turn and missed. It then came around and hit again on the backside of the figure 8 and I still couldn’t get any hooks in it. It was hard to come back, the fish are moving.
