Well... I'm an electrical idiot... but I did get myself a 12 Volt Test Light and began to troubleshoot a drain on my starter battery.

Narrowed it down to my outboard. Now what? How do I find whats drawing juice inside my highly sophisticated, full of electronic gadgets, F-115 Yamaha Four Stroke?

Unless its something seriously simple.... looks like my rig is on its way to the shop.

Any suggestions before I take it in?

Could be something as simple as someone wiring a fuel gauge or other 'always on' item into the wiring harness of the boat instead of the ignition. That's one place to look.

Yeah, the guy I brought my boat from has a switch wired in to turn the power off TO to motor because it was drawing electricity. Now I just have to turn that switch on to start my motor and use any accessories. I'm guessing Steve is right that something that's always on is wired to the motor. UNLESS this just started happening. In that case.... have fun checking wires!!

Yup.... just started. Never had issues in the past.

I punted the ball... and will be bringing it to a professional to troubleshoot.

Thanks guys.

How did you narrow it down to your outboard? I had a similar issue in the past, and it turned out to be the automatic bilge pump. So you should verify where that thing is powered (if you have one), if you haven't already. But if you've done that and you are quite confident that this is indeed a draw coming from the engine, then probably it's best to take it in...

Good luck, and please let us know how it turns out.
